A/C upgrade puts radar out of action again
(CNS): The Kearney Gomez Doppler Weather Radar facility will be down for three days this week starting today (Tuesday) to facilitate “the critical replacement and upgrade of the air conditioning lines”, the Cayman Islands National Weather Service (CINWS) has said.
The scheduled maintenance “is part of an ongoing commitment to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the weather monitoring systems” and has been set outside hurricane season to ensure continuous, reliable service during critical weather periods.
The CINWS said it appreciates the public’s understanding as they perform these necessary upgrades to maintain and enhance the radar facilities.

So, the recent round of general maintenance a couple months ago didn’t discover that AC needed maintenance then?
Weather nerd here. When the radar works, it can give a localised view which is closer than that of the conventional wx services.
Still, I would like to compare the cost of it against the benefit. I could easily do without it, and have been doing without it for a couple of years.
Change the name might help.

This actually helped me a lot with planning my work today – I was scheduled to do outdoor work at a job site for 9, but checked the radar and saw it was just a lone band crossing over. I had to decide to wait a bit, or cancel the job for today.
It correctly helped me gauge the coming weather conditions, and I was able to reschedule for 1030 exactly when it cleared rest of day. Forecasts on google et al called for 3 pm clear up.
The same NHC that owns NOAA which has just been put on the chopping block by President Musk and his comrade Krasnov Trump?
