Radar back in action after annual maintenance

Kearney Gomez Doppler Weather Radar

(CNS): The Cayman Islands National Weather Service said the Kearney Gomez Doppler Radar is now fully operational following its annual maintenance. The work was done earlier this month, between 4 and 6 December. The radar plays an important part in regional weather forecasting but has been plagued with technical issues and sustaining damage from stormy weather. The facility was only returned to service in May of this year after being out of action for more than seven months.

The radar, installed in 2013 through a grant provided by the European Union, has a life span of 15 years and will, therefore, likely need to be replaced within the next five years.

Members of the public can now access the radar here.

I’ve lost count how many times they’ve failed to fix it. Does it involve neurosurgery??

It only got taken down for maintenance at the end of hurricane season. There’s a lot to be upset about with Cayman’s Government (over the last few decades if we’re being honest), but actually trying to finally keep up with preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure is not on that list.

It’s a useless POS that Cayman doesn’t need.

What do the other outages have to do with this particular scheduled maintenance being completed? This is to work towards preventing future outages, numbnuts.

Well dumbass, just maybe they might have considered doing this routine maintenance during one of the many times it was under repair.

…no, seriously: who dresses you in the morning?

You clearly have no mechanical or technical experience whatsoever if you are asking a question like that; why are you commenting on this post?

Get rid of it if you can’t give valid reasons for its existence.

If it has a lifespan of 15 years it should be good until at least 2035, given that it hasn’t operated for more than 4 years since 2013.
