Woman seriously injured in South Sound crash

| 21/08/2024 | 17 Comments

(CNS): Just before 12:14pm Tuesday, the police and other emergency services responded to a 911 call about a single-vehicle collision along South Sound Road in the vicinity of the Red Bay Dock. Cayman Islands Fire Service officers extricated the lone occupant of the vehicle, who was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where she is being treated for what appear to be serious injuries.

The roadway was temporarily blocked after the collision so that RCIPS and CIFS officers could conduct investigations. The collision continues to be investigated by the police.

I have talked with this woman,I know her personally and she is a careful driver. I have known her for years. She was going to take several boxes, some of which were in wonderful condition to donate to the Cayman thrift store but she wanted to know first if any of the workers at the photo centre would like some of the things she was giving away. Something un-expected happened–perhaps a large rock on the road but from here on her brain did not have the opportunity to retain the memory. It forced her away to the right where she slammed into a post on the other side of the road. I assume that she experienced her first black-out ever. She did not revive until the NEXT MORNING at the hospital. She was kept for three days to tend to her wounds and dismissing late this afternoon

I have picked up large rocks out of that road in that area that are dropped by the irresponsible dump truck drivers on more than one occasion as they leave the scorched earth construction site nearby.

The cops in Cayman can’t drive properly either. How are they supposed to enforce laws they don’t understand or follow themselves? Not that you ever see them on the roads anyway.

The 6/7am racers can do whatever the f*** they want.

In the last 10 years the driving on our roads has reached scary levels, even when John John isn’t on the road pissed out of his skull.

The passenger had some sort of total mental black-out and has no remembrance of the crash. She awoke many hours after arriving at the hospital but they treated her immediately. The next morning she had no idea why her arms, legs, face were bleeding and rib was in so much pain. There was a large rock in the road but she did not know what was involved. I have not gone back to the area of the accident. She clearly never speeds, and has driven for many years. with no other damage to her guests Her only fender benders were almost unnoticeable like when she parked too close as she pulled too close to a gas station piling. She was taking three large boxes of clothing and toys for the Thrift shop before the accident. I will visit with her tomorrow when she is feeling together.

    The chaos carries on.

In other motoring news, I had the displeasure to drive at night recently and note that there’s still the same number of idiots using high beam. I’ve also seen cars with rental stickers on regular plates, people transported in the back of pickups, vehicles overtaking in 25 zones on solid white lines, cars with no working brake lights (pizza delivery in one case Dominos Sav, and an old rental Fit), vehicles with red lights at the front…clown world.

Is it really high beams or is it the type of lights they are using, hyper bright lights and the angle they are positioned which is in the oncoming drivers line of vision?

Some are American trucks that haven’t been properly converted for driving on the left. But, the vast majority are Japanese vehicles, and you can even see the extra lights are illuminated. It’s idiots and morons we share the roads with.

Insurance company needs to have their head checked. This kind of stuff is why our premiums are so high.

Straight road, middle of the day in a 30mph zone. Totally avoidable.

It’s why they call them ‘accidents’. Shit happens that is often unavoidable.

not talking about this one, but many accidents here are very avoidable if one or more parties involved engaged their brains.

Tailgating, speeding, and not indicating, combined with a lack of mitigation for road conditions and other road users, has got is to where we are. Poor laws, terrible enforcement, and lack of education are a heady mix.
