(CNS): Police were called to an unidentified school on Thursday morning after campus security reported finding an imitation firearm during a search of a school bus parked on the compound. In a very short press release, the RCIPS said the replica gun had been recovered and that an investigation was ongoing. However, the police said there are currently no safety concerns regarding staff or students. CNS will publish further information on this news story as and when it is received.

There’s a fair few imitation students on those buses, too.

At least the kids are responsible enough to not leave their real guns on the bus.

Catapults are illegal – slingshots are not.

Happy to be corrected, with Penal Code or other references, if I’m wrong, of course.

Hawaiian slings are also sold in dive shops. I remember when you couldn’t even bring in surgical tubing, lest it be considered to be used to retrofit a speargun (parts moratorium). Also recall when it was an automatic 10 years for possession of a single bullet. Tourists now get a $1000 fine for bringing loaded handguns with full magazines. We really can’t make up our mind when it comes to so many Gazetted rules. Every regime seems to have a new interpretation of what they think matters.

8:12, perhaps you meant to say:

Certain Toy GUNS and slingshot’s are illegal but yet you can go into some store’s in Cayman and buy them? CBC should enforce our laws by not allowing them to be imported or end up being sold in our island’s store’s on the shelves. Are these merchants being flagged for future import searches or fined for breaching our laws?

How are these getting past CBC to begin with?

Was it a little toy gun inside an Easy Bake Oven? If so maybe these little rascals have learned some things and are following by example.

Training students for life in the modern Cayman, where the person next to you may have a concealed firearm, and it seems a good idea to carry a gun to school.

Found during a search of the school bus? SO many questions. Why would anyone carrying such a thing leave it on the bus? Does school security normally search school buses? Was it where the driver or the students had access? How was it hidden – never saw a school bus with lockers or even anywhere you could hide something under a seat, but it surely wasnt just sitting on a seat?

Students get searched occasionally when exiting a bus. If the culprit was fore warned by a message on a cell phone, or saw the security and senior staff ready to do their checks, it’s easier to just dump it.

You’d think in 2024, all school buses would have cameras inside and outside, for a number of safety reasons. Ah well. At least one imitation firearm cannot be used again.

Will they handle this investigation properly? No.
Will anyone be held accountable? No.
Will this be swept under the rug like everything else? Yes.

It was a replica gun, meant to look, feel, and illicit same fear and threat level as a real gun. That’s very different from a bright orange squirt gun. It has no business being on a school bus.

The same as most places in this day and age. Parents MUST step up. Don’t become one if you don’t want the responsibility.
Condoms are cheaper. So the earlier you are responsible the better for you.
