Premier serves Cayman Islands Brewery beers at Strangers’ Bar in Westminister

(CNS): British MPs were given a taste of the Cayman Islands this week as officials handed out free beer, courtesy of Caybrew, at the Strangers’ Bar in the House of Commons in London. Premier Alden McLaughlin served up the booze to the UK politicians during a meet and greet aimed at promoting the jurisdiction. “Each time we come to London we look for every opportunity to meet with UK elected members and to tell the positive story of the Cayman Islands,” he said.

“Strangers’ Bar is open to members and staff of parliament, their guests, and invited media so it’s a good place to showcase a Cayman Islands’ product and keep our name out front in a friendly atmosphere,” McLaughlin added.

Graham Brady, MP for Altrincham and Sale West, and Nigel Evans, the chairman of the All Party Parliament Group on Beer, which, not surprisingly, is the biggest cross-bench association in the Commons with, 450 members, were two of the politicians enjoying the Caybrew beers.

The idea to serve the local beers at the parliament bar in Westminster was made by Stephen Webster, the brewery’s board chair, and Eric Bush, who now heads up Cayman’s London office.

“This is an ongoing effort by our office to promote the Cayman Islands,” said Bush in a release issued from the UK by the premier’s press secretary. “Part of our remit is to promote a better economic, social, cultural and political understanding of the Cayman Islands. One of the ways we can do that is engaging MPs, their staff and the media through an authentic Caymanian made product that can be enjoyed by all,” Bush added.

I’d be interested to learn which beers were supplied. That Ironshore stuff at 7% would have been a useful tool in any negotiations I’d have thought.

The 345 would have gotten us more of what we needed.

345? The stout weighs in at 7.5% compared to the other at 4.5%. I’d have packed a few crates of the former to be on the safe side. (Incidentally, anyone know if the MPs pay for the booze they guzzle before staggering into the chamber to vote?)

Now Mr. Premier alcohol is not a positive story of Cayman, that’s a promotional for a campaign contribute . Did you talk about the destruction that drugs and alcohol is causing in the Cayman Islands in that beer summit ?

We should have brought some real estate magazines. If you all remember or read history It was only John Cumber that changed Cayman for the better. Then we got electricity, better roads, hospital etc. Jamaica did nothing for us except marijuana, dancehall reggae and Bob Marley. Why not encourage those kinds of people who are tied to politics in the UK? Wouldn’t they be able to help us get on track? We might get back free medical, dental and eye exams like we had before the mass migration. Education was a lot better we always had a job waiting when we came out of school. When we came out of school we were trying to be like them and they were respected. What happened?

What a sorry and provincial display of third world diplomacy. This demonstrates no further refinement than McKeeva renting “entertainment” yachts in Miami, or Silvio Berlisconi hosting bunga-bunga parties. WTF!
