Cayman News Service(CNS): Five people aged between 18 and 40 have been arrested for drug related offences after police found the group in possession of ganja and cocaine at an apartment near Smith Cove last weekend. The RCIPS said the arrests were made because of the suspicious behaviour of one man, which led police to an address where they found another four people in possession of drugs.

Police said that two uniformed officers on anti-burglary patrol in South Church Street at around 2:30am on Sunday, 12 June, “came across a man behaving in a suspicious manner on a condo complex” in the area.

When officers spoke with the man, his “answers and demeanour” raised their suspicions, leading to a search that turned up a quantity of what resembled cocaine.

“Other items on his person led officers to an apartment at a nearby complex, where a further search was conducted. Four people were in the apartment,” an RCIPS spokesperson stated. During a search at that address more drugs resembling ganja and cocaine were discovered and all five people at the apartment were arrested on drug related offences.

Among them, a 24-year-old man from George Town, who remains in custody, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply ganja and cocaine, suspicion of consumption of controlled drugs and suspicion of possession of a drug utensil; an 18-year-old boy, who was released on bail, was arrested for consumption and possession with intent to supply ganja and cocaine; and a 26-year-old George Town woman was also bailed after being arrested for consumption.

A 29-year-old man from West Bay, was also arrested on suspicion of consumption of controlled drugs and suspicion of possession of a drug utensil, remains in custody; and a 40-year-old George Town man was bailed after being arrested for possession of a drug utensil and possession of controlled drugs.
