Mexico to legalise medical ganja

Cayman News Service(CNS): Speaking at a UN Drug Policy Summit in New York on Tuesday, President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico revealed that the country will be taking legislative steps to legalise the use of medicinal marijuana and government will consider changes to the penal code to decriminalise possession of small quantities for personal use. The announcement comes as hundreds of thousands of people in the US, Canada and Europe gather for marijuana festivals on what is now known as International Weed Day or 4/20.

The UN summit, which opened yesterday, has been billed as the most significant conference on the subject in years. As more countries and US states remove draconian laws and governments begin to recognise the potential of ganja and the futility of the war on drugs, its legal use is slowly expanding. However, the UN summit highlighted the significant divisions among member countries, with some favouring decriminalisation while others going so far as to punish drug-taking with the death penalty.

As the Cayman Islands’ close neighbour, Jamaica, positions itself to dominate the emerging international ganja industry, this jurisdiction still has some of the most draconian laws, with even consumption being a criminal offences that lands many people in jail.

According to press reports from the UN conference, a number leading figures sent an open letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon before the meeting calling for a more liberal approach. Among the signatories were several former presidents, US politicians and businesspeople, who argued that prohibition has done more harm than good.

The Mexican president warned that harsh penalties “create a vicious cycle of marginalisation and crime” and several delegates have called for the death penalty to be abolished for drugs crimes.

Meanwhile, here in Cayman, local legislators have refused to even discuss reviewing the country’s drug laws.

Outlaw Reggie Bush. There should be none allowed to be sold or smoked anywhere. Only high-grade

Legalizing it doesn’t mean that you will keep your job. Most employers do not want employees under the influence of anything. Decriminalizing it will mean these idiots will freely smoke wherever they please. That means exposure to children and to the neighbors that don’t want anything to do with the drug. It will make a nuisance. I know my family and I will be locked inside. Then what’s the point of living in the Cayman Islands if you can’t enjoy the fresh unpolluted air.

    De-criminalize it; now.

It doesn’t have to be decriminalize for anyone in any part of the world to be able to grow or use cannabis. It’s a plant. A naturally growing herb that has medical benefits without the dangers of complications. So what if its the law. If it was a law you had a brush your teeth in a toilet instead of the sink would you abide by that nonesense? Its about time people stood up and show their governmemt that they do not own them or control their life. 4/20 everyday.

Happy 420 everyone! The injustice is slowly coming to an end.

Whoever commits sin is the servant of sin. Shame that a powerful spiritual being like you is so easily taken captive by the pursuit of foolishness.
There is a world that exists outside of our petty selfishness.

Where in the bible does it say it is a sin.
It says over eating is a sin, but plenty of church goers here seem to do it everyday.

same goes with alcohol and sugar, except they will not just turn you into a loser, the more you use, they will eventually kill you as well

Has Mexico discussed this with President Trump?
He is going to make them sweat as it is – without them legalizing ganja…

I recall a story published in the media about two weeks ago that our prison is full. Curiously, that story received no attention and soon “died”.

Our legislators seriously need to consider de-criminalizing use and possession of small quantities of ganja, otherwise they will have the high cost of expanding Northward Prison.

How about ppl just not abuse drugs?! Most medications are restricted by a prescription. They aren’t illegal. They are just limited quantities allotted to each patient.

Marijuana if for medical use would be the same. Marijuana for recreational use, I just don’t see why we want to further the local population to be even more docile and brainless.

Alcohol is already there which has adverse effects. Adding marijuana will kill the little ambition the locals have left and that’s not saying much! Most of the local males between the ages of 20-45 that smoke marijuana are complete losers that still live at home with their mamas!

About time. Marijuana oil cures cancer, it is crime to hide it from people.

    • Anonymous says:

That is the truth!!!! I have used it to cure my cancer, but had to do it overseas for the treatment, when I could of stayed home here on the island and taken my treatment.

      • Anonymous says:

Others have tried the oil and they still died. It is not a confirmed cure.

Water fasting can also cure cancer. Again not for everyone.
