Marl spilling truck identified on CCTV

(CNS): A truck which littered the Frank Sound Road in North Side with marl rocks earlier this week, causing a danger to motorists, has been identified on CCTV. Officials from the National Roads Authority (NRA) confirmed yesterday that they respond, as an emergency safety measure, to clean up all spills, whether oil or aggregate, at least three or four times per week but it is not always easy to identify the perpetrators, leaving the public purse to pick up the tab.

If there is a spill at night, the Port Authority of the Cayman Islands will clean it up before the early morning peak hours, as per its agreement with the NRA, and if this is not done, the NRA will do the job and bill PACI.

For all other “private mishaps or negligent accidents” like the one in question, an NRA spokesperson said the issue is identifying who caused the spill. “The NRA bears all other costs associated with these works and we tend to respond three to four times per week for similar emergency call-outs,” the official added.

However, with the help of the national CCTV network, on this occasion the Department of Public Safety Communications has found the footage and the offending vehicle to assist in the investigation.

Who is responsible for the windshields that are chipped or broken dur to the stones these trucks let fly on the road when they are traveling 50 + miles per hour. I believe the next time it happens to me I’ll just chase them down and get my payment from that driver.

The truckers are like mini bus drivers. Total cowboys who run amok if not constantly regulated and watched over. Can you believe we have two government employees who are paid to sit in cars at the Frank Sound junction just to make sure the bus drivers go around the loop? It boggles the mind.

There needs to be a public example made ASAP since we all know there are years and years of heavy industrial transfers ahead of us. Without consequence, it is the Wild West out there.

What about concrete trucks spilling their loads, especially on North Sound Road junction at Butterfield roundabout – right under the cameras??!!

What about trucks leaving the port at night, over- filled with aggregate and not using their covers??!! Who is responsible for inspecting them??

But wait the national CCTV system was supposed to be useless. How many more crimes must CCTV solve before we acknowledge that the system works.

Shedden Load (sp) would be a much better place to spill.

That’s the problem, in their greed they are loaded with too many tons. Does the Port Authority possess a weighbridge to ensure the maximum weight limits of the trucks are not exceeded?.

The trucks need to be closer watched, I’ve followed tons of trucks that have rocks spilling out the back, I’m surprised it hasn’t caused an accident yet!
