Knuckleduster mugging in George Town
(CNS): A man was hit in the head by a mugger with a knuckleduster after he was attacked and robbed of cash and a watch in the early hours of Saturday morning. At around 3:30am police officers responded to a report that two masked men, one armed with a machete and the other with the knuckleduster, had robbed the man on Sound Way, George Town. The victim told the police that he had gone to his place of business, where he was approached by two men who demanded cash.
The man with the knuckleduster hit him on his head before the robbers made off with his watch and an undetermined amount of cash. The RCIPS said that there was apparently a third male who collected items dropped at the scene.
A member of the public took the victim to the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town, where he was treated for his injuries and released.
George Town CID is investigating the matter and urge anyone who has any information about the incident to contact them at 649-4222 or CrimeStoppers at 800-TIPS
We can fix this. We all have emails, computers and smart phones to exchange info. Each district meet every month and exchange info of suspicious behavior via email to the members of your district, snap pictures if you can so others know what to look out for. Invite the police to join the meetings and review the evidence the community has compiled. Maybe we can help the police help us? If the thugs know we are all prepared and vigilant they will stay out of our community and go elsewhere.
Perhaps we should take the same approach as our friends in the Dominican Republic. I recently saw a youtube video of a thief that was beaten and killed by the entire community before the police even came. They don’t play when it comes to thugs targeting their families.
Real leaders with a vision would start with the boys who are 10-12 yo today and already causing troubles. Otherwise you might end up with entire male population in in/out of prisons loop. Where are the programs to give these boys a change to become productive members of the society?
Over the past 8 years or so I have witnessed our beautiful Cayman Islands being turned into a country of what I consider to be lawlessness. Many of these serious crimes are happening in board daylight. The C.I. Government CCTV cameras, criminals see them as just another piece of electronic equipment hanging on a utility pole. They don’t care about CCTV as the quality of these cameras – which were sold to taxpayers for millions and millions of dollars, are of poor quality.
The only serious crimes that haven’t been committed here as yet – is Treason and Terrorism.
I suspect that one or both of these crimes will happen in the next five years or less.
My personal opinion and motto is this: I prefer any day of the week to be tried by twelve than be carried by six, in regards to our ongoing crime situation.
It’s the same shit that is happening with DOE who goes around harassing watersports operators and tourist at Starfish Beach – but won’t go anywhere near Barkers in the marine parks, where criminals are poaching lobsters and conchs on a daily basis. Their illegal illegal catch is then taken to a small grocery store in Boatswain Bay and other restaurants to be resold.
You would have to absolutely blind and deaf not to know this. May be they are.
No substantive enforcement has ever been done by DOE since Cadian Ebanks left there. Hell, he even locked up several policemen breaking our Marine Parks laws. That’s a fact.
How can the DOE talk about expanding our marine parks when the existing one’s is not being enforced by as little as 5% on an annual basis.
Our whole system is in shambles. Just this morning I drove behind someone who pulled an illegal trailer with two jet skis on it and he had two paddle boards stashed inside his less than road side worthy looking minivan. He clearly was off to 7mile beach to rent out his equipment to some poor tourists, and I don’t think it is a stretch to assume that he doesn’t have a trade and business license in place. The question is, if I can spot shit like that EVERY SINGLE DAY, how come nobody who works in any of those depts. who enforce the laws/regulations can spot something like that?
Point I am making is that police can’t spot obvious violations in bright day light, so to assume that they will be making any rounds at night and take the initiative to stop and search suspicious looking individuals is a real stretch!!!!
When the Cox Lumber truck shed its load at the Hurley’s roundabout, I was behind a pickup truck full of people in the back bed. The cops just waved them through, that’ll learn em.
Too lazy to work and bastardly coward! Baines best get those officers on late-nite rounds and do stop, search and make some arrest! These muggings will soon be murder and it better not be one of mine cause all hell will break loose! The Police need do their jobs and family members need to stop accepting money from family members who are not working and jewelry they’ve stolen! All of ’em should be ashamed of themselves!
Let’s see some description and start looking closer to home, something we can’t be blamed for as I have yet to see Caucasian male as an assailant.
And the immigration policy needs to change you get convicted of an imprisoable offence you get deported no ifs or buts and your passport is stamped not wanted in Cayman.
Ladies and gentlemen, I see blame is being thrown around to many other subjects matters ie government, law enforcement, communities like: the LGBTs the Churches the gangs the young the unemployed the mentally challenged the poor even the rich. Fact are the only people we need to and have to blame is our selfs, everyone, even all those groups mentioned above its a fact of life humans feel the need to grow populations and expand on life and develop in a way that life moves faster than geographic location the problem is Caymans development is going too fast that the local ecosystem (human and other animals and plant life) can not cope thus all this non sense people doing crime animals doing crimes like dogs attacking people etc etc
To some this just may be a pile of words in a bag but some of you may understand but to the other who don’t please try to read in between the lines and figure it out but understand this we are not to blame one for what’s going on but rather blame everyone as in yourself because making a safe and decent place to live is everyone’s responsibility not just one
When one of these attacks or murders happen to a government official family member who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, is when we will finally see some retribution until then NOTHING positive will happen. They will continue to commit crime and continue to be released because we can’t lock up a friends son. Stop wearing blinders and realize these children have problems.
The leadership of this country needs to put their differences aside and come up with a solution that is going to reduce crime. The CoP has been an absolute failure in this regards and our “LEADERS” needs to start DEMANDING accountability of the GOV and FCO. How much longer will they allow this to happen and turn a blind eye to what is happening around us?
Now, we as citizens must do our part as well.
No. Jamrock West and Hondo East. Not Cayman. Cayman was wonderful.
Racism again.
I wish our so-called representatives would take a tough stance on the issue of crime, instead of just worrying about getting re-elected.
If this issue is not dealt with very soon, I am afraid that there will not be any incentive that will attract talented individuals to Cayman, or retain our own educated. Everyone that has an education will be gone.
Only the poor will remain. There won’t even be jobs for low wage workers in the economy.
I am sure it will be an election promise in 2017, but by then it will be too late.
They are too concerned with ignoring GAY rights, to care about crime, it will fall on their doorstep one of these days too! And the pastors on talk shows promoting hatred, shameful, so much churches, and no unity, Government is using this Gay right thing to divert attention away from the serious problem of crime, but rest assured, when the UK is ready she will show you what has to be done, or else
Or else ? Please elaborate.
no need to! we all know who is boss at the end of the day, say what you like, last time I checked we were still a British territory, and don’t even say independence, we do not have the population to build a army, so there goes our security and with it everything else, think things are bad now? imagine what it will be like then
Only matter of time before one of these attacks turns into murder. One answer might be for RCIPS to adopt a policy of aggressive late night patrolling backed up by stop and search. The did that in one place I lived using unmarked units, rounded up a lot of bad guys and stopped the muggings. Problem is that would mean that the Commissioner would have to admit this really is a problem and he doesn’t want to do that, does he?
LOL. The police did something similar to that where I come from in the UK but it only kicked off after some of us cornered two well-known offenders in the local pub car park and gave them a good beating. It almost looked like the cops had turned out to protect the bad guys from the local residents.
Not investigating anything Lets be a little truthful here the police even if they caught the criminals they would not do a thing.
the criminal would just deny it or say he found it or I really like how they would say they were trying to help the man that they found him injured
A real problem that Caymanians don’t realize is that the police from Jamaica or Hondo cannot do anything to their own country men, for back home the payback is with lead to their family
You are right.
Thank you for the acknowledgement You know what I am talking about
I have witnessed it first hand between a criminal and a cop both from Westmorland and they were best friends from back home The crime at hand became a nonissue
Welcome to the Cayman Islands.
@8:53 you should already be use to hearing or seeing things like this where ever you come from so please don’t make it seem like the cayman islands is the only place this type of stuff happens because you have country’s that’s far more worst than the other and the cayman islands happens to be one of the most safest place in the world according to a lot of people world wide. I dont agree with the crime and corruption that’s taking place in this country but hey which place in the world doesn’t have this type of stuff happening? Open you’re eyes and wake up!
Having lived in ten countries in 25 years, I call your comment rubbish.
For such a tiny land mass and per capita, there is a massive amount of crime, corruption, traffic accidents and strangely, churches in such a small place.
Ok but why isn’t the cayman islands listed as the most dangerous place in the world? The last time I checked it was Honduras listed at number 1.I bet if you go to places that’s considered very dangerous you will think the cayman islands is like a walk in the park and there’s no way you can sit there and say you never heard or saw any crimes happen in the ten countries you supposedly lived in.FYI crimes happen in a lot of small areas in every country in the world and that’s a fact…
That’s not the point. The point is: the glaring degradation of society over the past 8 years.
And this makes it ok??
Bet widely travelled @11:11 never visited Honduras and Trinidad, might not have been able to leave in one piece. And oh, bet he wouldn’t be writing in the local press in these so called 10 countries. Some of us have lived in 20 in 25 years bobo.
It’s your eyes not you’re. Sorry to correct the deplorable grammer. There is a difference please use them correctly.
First one should not use contractions in written text other than to quote spoken words. So your first error is the use of “it’s”. Second “your” and “you’re” should have been in quotation marks. Third, it is “grammar” not “grammer”. Fourth, there needed to be punctuation between “difference” and “please”. You have managed to produce four basic errors in nineteen words. Lesson of the day? Do not join the language police until you have graduated from high school.
Must of been a Caymanian who wrote the correction, with the terrible school system and all. Way to set em straight. I hope I didn’t make any grammatical errors.
Yes!! It is “must have been…..” not “must of been….”
“Must of been” is pretty much a capital crime.
Hello do you know what time it is?
The spelling police never sleep.
@5:36am, yes but other countries don’t make a statement of “we have no crime or gangs here, its safe”. So my yes are open and awake, but I don’t think yours are!!! They keep shoveling the s..t to us and we just keep on taking it!!! Wait till a tourist or some government official’s family gets mugged or worse, then you will see s..t hit the fan!! Shut your trap and open your eyes and see what has happened to your so called perfect Island!!!
Haha whatever you say internet gangster! You can only talk crap behind a phone/computer and feel like your on top of the world but I bet you won’t open your mouth in person or make a statement like that out loud other than that your just a waste of time (internet gangster)??.
Yet tourists that are given their flyers when they go to the rent a car are told Cayman is totally safe…BS, we are as dangerous as anywhere else, may even worse!!! At least give the tourists heads up to be aware of their surroundings, lock their doors, don’t go to certain places after dark, better yet, don’t go anywhere after dark!!! One day a tourist will be attacked and that will be that!!!
Opportunists, lazy ass bastards, who need to be caught and stoned. Drag them through the town, so the Commissioner of Police can see what he isn’t doing. He sitting back sucking up A/C and enjoying the 4 S’s, sun, sea, sand and salary. Get your backside up and do something, stop flapping your wings and plopping your mouth. Your are useless.

Someone has to do just that. Hire a couple of professionals to catch them who would also be able to present hard evidence. This catch and release game seems never stops. That $100,000 award went unclaimed. Enough money for a professional to catch those bast…s.
