Three Cubans remain as CIG deports 49 migrants
(CNS): There are now just three Cubans detained by the Cayman Islands authorities at the detention centre in Fairbanks, officials said Wednesday, after 49 migrants were deported back to Havana Tuesday. It is now over one month since the last group of Cubans were forced to land in Cayman during the first leg of a treacherous journey to the United States.
In a year which has seen a massive increase in migrants on the move, costs for housing Cubans held for deportation continue to increase.
Although details have not been revealed, the deputy governor has signed a renewed agreement with the Cuban government which determines the steps to repatriate migrants who end up landing on Cayman soil.
The last group was apprehended by immigration and police in Cayman Brac just over four weeks ago and most of them were returned in the group that departed on 21 July. The 49 Cubans who were repatriated consisted of migrants that had arrived on 10, 14, 17 and 20 June.
Officials said that only three Cubans remain in government’s care as they await finalization of their deportation processes with the immigration department.

Cayman so mean! Wow why not leave the people and give them freedom! This isn’t land of dreams after all! Wow wow
Cayman so small! We don’t have room for everyone in Cuba. Sending them back is the only option.
You want them to all stay here? Are you going to be responsible for them and pay their expenses? You are a silly person for sure!!
