Ivan Farrington, President, Cayman Islands Seafarers Association

(CNS): The Cayman Islands Seafarers Association has announced the names of its new president and board of directors for 2015 following a recent meeting to steer a course for the year ahead. Ivan Farrington was appointed as president and took up the helm on 17 February. Farrington’s long seafaring career began in 1952 with his first trip to Miskito Cay, Nicaragua, catching turtles and his last official seafaring voyage was on the SS Gulf Service in 1971.

During his time at sea he sailed ships to all major ports in the world. A colourful and much loved local character, now famed for his Devil’s Hangout gift shop in Hell, West Bay, Farrington has been a hit with tourists for more than 20 years.

Officials said Farrington brings new and enthusiastic leadership to the Seafarers Association with his commitment to not only complete existing executive projects but to move forward with new innovation projects as well.

Farmington will also be tasked with upholding Cayman Islands Seafarers Association protocols and the need to recognize what officials called “the arduous sacrifices upon the seas for the financial benefits earned”.  He will also be looking out for the country’s aging seafarers’ healthcare needs and to continue the association’s efforts to raise funds for the best healthcare technology solutions and outcomes for the whole population as well as its members.

The board members serving alongside Farrington include Captain Owen Farrington, Ransford Terry, Wenzil Burlington, Herbert Martin (Secretary), Neils Godfrey, Steve McField (Vice President), George Ebanks and Leonard Ebanks (Treasurer).
