Elections Office alarmed by paper’s mess-up on polling stations

| 23/05/2017

(CNS): Local newspaper, The Cayman Reporter, made a number of errors in listing the polling stations in its printed supplement and the Elections Office is concerned that, as a result, people will go to the wrong place tomorrow to cast their vote. The locations of eleven polling stations are incorrect in the paper’s election supplement, the Elections Office noted in an urgent release Tuesday afternoon. The correct locations are listed on the Elections Office website and also on the CNS Interactive District Map.

“We are very concerned that voters will be going to wrong locations and might not have time to get to the right one,” said Supervisor of Elections Wesley Howell, as he urged all voters to check the correct location today so that they are not inconvenienced tomorrow. Howell said he had asked the Reporter for corrections.

The correct locations, as on the Elections Office website, and the wrong ones in the Cayman Reporter are listed here.

Polling stations for the 19 electoral districts in the 24 May General Elections will be open for voting from 7.00am-6.00pm. Cell phones, cameras, iPads or any other equipment which might digitally capture images or make audio recordings will not be allowed inside the polling stations.

Anyone with questions should email office@elections.ky or call 949-8047.

  1. I wish to advise the general public that I had nothing to do with the errors in the Cayman Reporter’s Election Guide and I ask you to access the Reporter’s website for an explanation from the editor of the newspaper. Anyone who knows me, knows that I would never do such a thing and I sincerely hope that it in no way affect the outcome of the election.

    This had to be deliberate.

So the same person supporting independents some now supported by Mac and this is the type of employees/ newspaper he runs? Scary! Caymanians don’t be fooled… A sign from God that his team that original group should not be allowed to carry out his agenda, Ellio, Catherine Tyson, Raul Gonzalez Kenrick Webster, time to let go

You can’t make this stuff up. Nice try Dr T.

Don’t blame this on anyone other than the Cayman Reporter and its ownership.

In fact what is more interesting is that the good doctor himself owns the Cayman Reporter .. wake up Cayman!!! You are being played for a fool by these so-called independents who are “supported” by the same doctor and who would “mistakenly” publish an erroneous supplement with false information. Those stations have been the same for YEARS, how could you possibly get it wrong?!

The role of the good doctor is what needs to be investigated! Looks like we have our own Russian-style election interference!

Agreed. this had to be a deliberate act just to confuse voters. Shame on those responsible.
Remember the Cayman saying ‘God don’t like ugly’

    Noted

One has to wonder if this is indicative of an ‘Independent’ lead government. Even when given the explicit information they got it wrong. No vote for them from me.

Just saw on their site the correct polling stations. Not even an apology to the public or elections office. SMH.

There are other mistakes as well. Not very well written and lacks pertinent information.

  10. Knot S Smart says:

I think this is an attempt by the Russians to interfere in our election…

  11. Unison says:

Wow! Seriously, this is more than an hiccup!

Who is the head of the Elections Office??? Who was responsible for making this list public ???

    (Internal investigation needed)

CNS: This was in no way the fault of anyone at the Elections Office, who have been disseminating accurate and timely information throughout, including the list of the polling stations – see the CNS page here. All other media were given the same information and published it correctly. The Reporter made a mistake. Blaming it on the Elections Office is utterly wrong.
