PPM comes top in CNS reader poll
(CNS Election): With 1,966 responses so far, CNS readers believe the Progressives will be forming the next government, with over 52% saying they will be voting for a PPM candidate. While this is not a scientific poll, the reader survey has attracted the largest participation of any online straw polls this month. At 8am Monday, almost 51% of respondents said Alden McLaughlinPremier of the Cayman Islands More would be premierPremier of the Cayman Islands More again when the results are in and just under 49% said the PPM would have a majority, while another 4.5% believed the government would be a PPM led coalition.
The survey asked readers just three questions: which group the candidate readers intend to vote for was from, who they thought would be the next premierPremier of the Cayman Islands More and what shape of government they wanted to see.
Only a tiny fraction (just over 9.5%) of the more than 1,960 respondents believe the next government will be held by or led by a coalition independents. Over 37% of people said McKeeva Bush would be the next premierPremier of the Cayman Islands More, and despite his desire for the top job, less than 1.5% of those who took part believe that Arden McLean will be leading the country when the election is over.
Over 36% of CNS readers said they would be voting for a CDP candidate, but contrary to popular belief that the 2017 election is all about independents, only 11.4% of those who took part said they were voting for an independent candidate in their constituency.
While almost half believe the PPM will have the majority, more than a third (34%) of readers believe the CDP will form the next government, while an additional 4% expect the CDP to lead a coalition. The poll, which was posted on Friday afternoon, is not a scientific poll, but in the absence of any independent accurate polling data in Cayman, it sits alongside other media polls that have concluded that the PPM are ahead in the race, though most others have had a much smaller participation.
However, a poll commissioned by the CDP, which was conducted by regional pollster Don Anderson, had the average for McKeeva Bush’s party in eleven constituencies as 49% of people voting CDP and less than 10% for the PPM. The poll asks who is the better leader for the country, with Bush receiving 45.5 % of the support while McLaughlin had just an 8.4% approval rating. Only part of the poll has been posted on Facebook and it is not clear how many people were surveyed.
In a poll by Cayman Reporter last week, 63% of the less than 300 respondents said they planned to vote for the PPM. Steve Tomlinson, who is backing a group of at least 10 independent candidates, is a majority shareholder in the newspaper, but the poll pointed to just 21% support for independent candidates among its readers.

Don Andereson didn’t do so well in his predictions on the Jamaica elections.
The optimism is reflected in a poll by Don Anderson, who has been polling Jamaican elections for almost 20 years. The poll, commissioned by Radio Jamaica (RJR), was conducted last week and shows the PNP edging out the JLP to win the majority of the 63 constituencies up for grabs and keeping control of the government.
“The PNP has a good chance of being re-elected, but the opposition is obviously putting in a good fight,” Anderson said. “The PNP has more sure seats than the JLP, probably twice as many. It’s important for the JLP to win all of the marginal seats to turn around a 21-seat lead.”

Here is an email address for Don Anderson if anyone wants to contact him for an explanation. Maybe like in St. Lucia he did his poll a bit earlier than near to the election date.

Remember the ” I can use Government credit cards to gamble in casinos cause there is nothing in the civil servants handbook that says I can’t” mentality????
Consider carefully if you want the country to get back to those days….money reaches only so far – when that has been all squandered, then what????
Then we can screech, “Weez broke!”
Nah, There’ll be plenty milk and carrots.
I am hoping for a minority Government, which would mean that no party can easly be bought by the 1% .
Other polls also said Brexit would never win the vote and President Cheeto was but a pipe dream.

What are you smoking? It must be strong. Bobo don’t smoke no more hear!!!
2:20PM. Why are you so afraid of Jamaicans? I am married to one and I have most of them to be highly talented and intelligent. Yes, we do have some bad apples but we also have some bad apples among our own local people. My Jamaican husband treats me royally he even gave me several businesses where I hire both expats and locals. Some of my locals really let me down. Nonetheless, I still love them and I only wished that we could all live together in love. I will now close and I beg you ALL, please go out and vote. You have only ONE vote, please use it wisely. Do not get excited about polls but do the right thing and which is to vote.
No one is afraid or dislikes Jamaicans. It is not about them. It is about pride of country. Jamaicans are Proud of their country and Caymanians are proud of Cayman.
There is a very strong aversion for showing pride in the Cayman Islands and it is what tears down Cayman. The Cayman Islands is a wonderful place with wonderful people. Jamaica has its own wonderful people. However, whatever it is Caymanians want to do for the future of Cayman should be a choice of Caymanians and no one else.
A PPM coalition is the best scenario. Our tried and true who have done no harm and some good assisted by some new blood. Another CDP would be disastrous.
Given the omov I think no party will have enough elected members to form govt. They all want to be in cabinet and so it will be hysterical to see how long it will take them to argue and maneuver to form a government. This is going to be fun to watch.
Even without omov ppm needed Connolly to leave UDP and some c4c members last time around. This time there is no c4c and ppm will end up with less candidates than last election. Each party will need to persuade many more independents to join them in a quest for power. Anything can happen but it will take a long time for these guys to form a govt and elect a leader.
That’s my prediction.
They need the independents , either party that has the Majority ,to make the Government , as I don’t think the Party’s will slide to help the other,And we all Caymanian!!
I’m not necessarily a party person, although I definitely lean PPM these days after the financial turnaround that Marco Archer headed up, but the majority of the independents are absolute crackpots and give you no alternative.
PPM cannot lose the urgency and importance of getting out to vote. Your vote is so important to make sure that a criminal does not run our Country again and drive it to the pits while making millions. We also cannot allow a rich doctor to dictate who gets in with the 2 million he has put into the pot. If his “independents” get in he will be the unelected premier and calling the shots. Who knows what he is doing behind the scenes…sounds like Cayman’s George Soros.
Nothing very surprising in the poll results; we have a choice of status quo — which has done no harm and some good, or evil overlord, or undefined wildcard. Pretty easy choice for me, and the only skin I have in this game is the best wishes for our country.
Most of the CNS readers are expats who belong to a certain demographic. This poll is nonsense.
I don’t think expats have anything to do with it. The party with the least support in polls probably has the most illiterate supporters who are unable to participate in a poll, but they will still wote.
PPM supporters, do not rest easy, this is a dog fight, and we need to show up at the polls and not let our guard down. Every vote counts. We cannot go back to the way it was 4 years ago.
My main concern and hope is that Kenneth did not fool enough people to edge out Marco. Kenneth would be a disaster for Cayman. He could never find a job to pay what a Government salary pays so this is his cash cow shot. Pure Pay Check Politician
Kenneth will win because McKeeva is endorsing him in an effort to get Marco’s Finance Ministry. We can’t afford to let Mac get his hands on that surplus and the rest of our finances so we have to make sure and not support him by voting for Kenneth.
Wonder who put us in the RED , yes PPM , 2005 -2009 they boasted they will spent the most on Capital projects, better they had built the Dock and Airport , bring in revenue then spend on schools, 1.5 schools as they just finished the JGHS Hall . And the education hasn’t gotten no better ,the only Reason they couldn’t spend this time is because the FFR is in place , Marco did wonders yes , if you don’t spend nothing , you must have money. Government is to sustain the Economy not oppress it,
Then beg four more years. Bring in all these regulations so small business got to beg the bigger company’s work.
LOL, that sounds like the proverbial ‘kiss of death’ to me.
Raul Gonzalez 2017 Newlands
Alden not getting Red Bay though
Really? What universe are you in? Who is going to defeat him, Dr. Frank or Denniston (“cornered cat”)?
I’m no fan of Alden, but when I have the choice between someone who got shot in the foot but has yet to explain how he got caught up in the situation and the other who can’t speak in front of 20 people claiming the questions are “unfair”, I would vote for Alden any day.
Denniston is easily the choice here. By far the most morally sound of the 3.
Denniston only stood as a favour to Alden. He had no aspirations, his job is done and debts have been paid.
This is a relief. I had a nightmare that our credit cards were abused again.
PPM will get voted in without Alden… dream scenario
How many of these 1,960 respondents came from same clusters of IP addresses – and where exactly are those IP’s? PPM-bots are in high campaign mode. There are many political marketing agencies that can be hired to skew social media and these straw-poll conclusions.
Did you see the Compass front page photo of Bodden Towners disrupting the PPM motorcade…?
Jamaicans bringing their disgusting election tactics to Cayman….and guess who organized his people…?
I thought the motorcade was pretty disgusting too. They say empty barrels make the most noise and what a lot of commotion that was!
APOLOGIES TO READERS HERE:
The Jamaican nationality bashing you see from commenters, tolerated here … does not represent the views of so many decent Caymanians
:/
Why do you have to involve Jamaicans in this equation? You should be reminded many of the jamaicans that you bash are doctors, lawyers and the hardworking men in our construction industry. Some of our men and women have been married to them and your young people can’t get enough of Jamaica for carnivals and weekend getaways. Kindly refrain from singling out one nationality as our people can do enough wrong on their own when they ready! Quite frankly I don’t care for thumbs down.
Love conquers all things and you should practice that rather than hate words against one nationality.
I think CNS should have gone and visited the udp/cdp site rather than taking screenshots from facebook. Last time I checked that page there were a lot more PPM votes than what shows in the images above. Once CDP started bragging about the poll that was only circulated to their members it swung completely the other way and PPM is leading.
Did this Anderson guy do his survey in a room full of the UDP/CDP supporters?
Don Anderson is a Jamaican so he probably couldn’t understand anyone who didn’t have a Jamaican accent.
Ha Ha. a jamaican. hired by guess who? conducting a poll in guess where? Press on PPM. BTW do we REALLY need to bring a Jamaican in here to conduct our election polls?
Main isssue with any poll conducted at the peak of election campaigning is that the results are skewed heavily by campaigners and supporters..look at what what happened with trump…in this case the ppm couid be like Hilary and the crazy result ( like trump) is the independent coalition . We shall see
CNS , Was all participants in the survey registered voter ? If no it means squat . I voted in the survey and I am not a registered voter.
Polls are full of shit… Ask Trump!
Sad day for the Cayman Islands. Voting in the same people in over and over again is the same as smacking your head into the wall over and over again and expecting a different result. Vote for those who have never held office before – can’t promise you it will get better, but at least you won’t knowingly smack your heads into the wall again.
PARTY RULES – I have always said over and over again, Independents don’t give the voter a UNIFIED PLAN; they don’t help the voter see WHO WILL TAKE WHAT PORTFOLIO; they don’t give any assurance like the Party that things will get done promptly!
Independents keep voters in the dark until they get into the LA House. And I believe thats why this poll of nearly 2000 people is showing the results!
And look at the real world… what government do you see form by Independents alone???
None! Lone rangers can’t run a country! It takes a TRANSPARENT AND UNIFIED GROUP OF PEOPLE!
☺
How annoying and 3rd world was the PPM’s motorcade on Saturday!?
How anyone can vote for this bunch is beyond me! Talk about ghetto politics!
Wat u talkin bout Dear…
I guess you’re a ghetto follower of the ghetto party.
No. You?
11.29am What a confused bunch of persons we have opposing the PPM.You are saying that PPM is the Ghetto Party.Your politicians are calling the PPM the Party of the elites.I am calling PPM ‘the party for all the people’ and representing stability going forward.
The Bodden town Jamaican ghetto came out To show how it is done in Jamaica….Mac has given us so much to fear, thanks Mac.
None of this is realiable so stop printing the nonsense. This will be a Hillary and Donald trump scenario. Please do not disappoint the premier and then come Thursday he is in the hospital because he believed your polls. This is wickedness to do this to him. The only how the ppm get back in is if all IND is his.
