Over 200 voters dropped from the register

| 13/04/2017

(CNS): Following the process of objections, the Elections Office has published the final voters list for Cayman’s 2017 General Election on 24 May. The final tally of cleared voters is 21,226 people after 234 names were removed for a number of reasons, such as voters being registered with mental health issues or residency disqualifications. The names of people who have died since the last review have also been removed from the list. Election officials said the next step will be issuing voter ID cards to qualified voters and distribution points will be announced shortly.

With less than six weeks to go, there will be no more changes, so candidates can now hone in on voters in the new 19 seats as Cayman counts down towards its first ever election under the system of ‘one man, one vote’ in single-member constituencies.

Voters can check the details and search the new register on the Elections Office website and details of the new constituency numbers are posted below:

    21,226 Caymanians.

A relatively tiny number, however it represents the concentration of democratic power upon which lies the fate of countless people the world over, desperate for their “permanent” piece of this wonderful pie.

Recognize the power you possess Cayman and act accordingly.
If our collective future is not looking bright then do not be afraid to demand change.
Only we can bring it about.

Vote with the welfare of your fellow nationals as an absolute priority on May 24 2017.

Can anybody explain why someone “with mental health issues” is removed from the voters list, but it is not a hindrance to someone with the same condition who can run for office?

Amen to that, Now if we could come up with a plan to get those want to be politicians with mental health issues and criminal backgrounds off of social media then it would be magic.
