Elections Office opens mobile and postal voting
(CNS Elections): Registered voters have until Friday, 12 May, to apply for either a postal vote or a mobile vote and the election’s office is urging people to make their applications as soon as possible. Anyone who is entitled to vote but who will be off-island on polling day, 24 May, can apply for a postal vote while those who will be here but who won’t be able to get to the polls due to disabilities or work commitments can apply for mobile or early voting.
Mobile and postal voting is an important part of the democratic process. During the 2013 elections, out of around 15,000 votes cast in that national ballot almost 1,200 were via postal or mobile voting.
All the relevant forms are available on the Elections Office website. Postal voters will need to complete Form B, which will need to be submitted to the office with proof of travel plans in person or via email. Those who will be in the Cayman Islands but unable to physically attend the polls may apply for mobile voting using Form C.
Elections Office polling staff will either visit successful applicants in person or facilitate their vote before polling day at an early voting station.
