Catherine Tyson

(CNS Election): Catherine Tyson, a former TV and current radio host, is the latest newcomer to the political scene to announce her plans to run for a seat in the Legislative Assembly. She is the first candidate to formally confirm her intention to run in George Town South, where rumours are already flying regarding a host of potential candidates for the seat. The constituency has 1,215 voters and covers an area stretching from Windsor Park to South Sound, covering a diverse socio-economic range of voters. Tyson said she will be launching her campaign as an independent candidate on Saturday at the South Sound boat ramp.

Currently a guest host for Radio Cayman’s two phone-in shows, Talk Today and For the Record, she produced and hosted the TV show, Lighten Up with Catherine Tyson. In response to the writer on 17/3 @1:31am. The writer’s question “why is it your business if she is able to attract a man etc”

First of all you sound as wutless as her! I agree totally with the writer! she admits to only just crashing into him a few weeks then she’s out “whinning” up on him.

Couldn’t she try to be more modest even if she’s not ?? Couldn’t she have used the word “dancing” ??? Nope she chose the word that best represents her 🙂 she can attract a man ? Hmmm…obviously from all that has been rumored and shown she’s been in several relationships in the past year, but they never last long, so she’s not attracting them for too long, is she??

LOL..how long did the one she was whinning up on last ???? Perhaps she should ask for forgiveness and move back to Atlanta, the poor guy sounds like he’s still in love with her even after what she did to him. She’s a USER and not to mention MONEY THIRSTY!!

We need people that truly cares about our people and not just looking for an easy but highly paid job. She needs to be more humble. She’s such a schemer!! Tell ya friend to go sit her a$$ down or maybe she’s the writer.

      Word for the day: Exhaustipated

Too tired to give a S$&t!!!!!

Catherine I don’t know you, but like all the others. You deserve a fair chance in the is election, What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger.

Don”t let a few “bones” deter you.. hang in there!!

The voters will decide — Good luck

    • Unruly for life says:

Clearly every single negative Bad mind comment on here must be friends with that big online bully whom everyone knows. As a born and raised CAYMANIAN you all disappoint me to shame Half of una probably not even registered. Yet have so much to say about a WOMAN who has been envolved with the community since she came back home in 98 Google her and educated your little brains or let me guess you are all happy with what you have now as MLAs what a sad lil sack of foolish people . Recycle them again . She has my vote!! And my family’s she’s getting in so sip some tea on that !

      • James says:

Who is the Online bully? What did they do?

      • Anonymous says:

I like her, just not sure for politics.

      • Anonymous says:

“Unruly” please go take a seat — I am a CAYMANIAN to as well I like Catherine. All of us have a past that we are proud of or that we wish we could have a “do over”.regarding something. She is no different from anyone else. Whatever happen between those two, I am sure she was an active participant. For every action there is a reaction. But really stop placing blame.
She has a campaign to run, and if I lived in GTS I would vote her also. Hopefully, she does well in the debates and at the polls. Let her private life stay private..

    • Unruly for life says:

Your a sad person whom is totally blinded by hate! What’s sadder it that your probably a woman and a big HATER girl bye !!

    • Encouragement to Catherine says:

Hi Catherine —-More probably if you are stuck, it is because you are sitting in your mess and refusing to get out. When you notice that nobody including your die hard buddy no longer wants to hear your stuff, let that be a wakeup call that it is time for you to be singing a different tune. Life is what we make it, and yes yours may have had its ups and downs but every one of us has a story, some a bit sadder than others, but nevertheless, we all have a story. When we look at others and start to burden them down with the problems in our lives it would surprise us to know the stuff that they might have to endure, and often times we are too busy complaining to even wonder much less care..

Find that quiet place, cry that river and keep it moving. The quicker you do this the better! Forgive your ex they probably did the best that they knew how and you are now responsible to fix yourself. Get another one, life is about transition and change, where pets die and for Heaven’s sake, your friend is not your friend if he betrayed you. Plus, you are better off without those two unscrupulous people in your life anyway. Count that as a blessing!

So dry your eyes, fix your hair, and face the world. There is more out there ready for the taking. Armour yourself with a smile, some hope, scruples and prayer, and you will be well on your way. Just keep it moving no matter what.

      Good Luck with the election..

I don’t think too much credit should be given to all the negative comments on this candidate as I understand that the Facebook scandal mentioned here was driven by one very savvy and vindictive individual. Could it be that same person behind the majority of negative anonymous comments?

    • Anonymous says:

If Ms.Tyson wins or loses this election it will be based on what she has done in the community for the people. Not on a relationship gone bad. Thats old news.

Can she tell us what she has done in the community or whats her agenda if the people elects her into the LA.

The fact that she has not publicly responded to the scandal leaves me to wonder. I am interested in her side of that story. There is nothing wrong with admitting she made some mistakes and now she is moving forward. Maybe she should take a lesson from Sarah Orbett.

Again, whats her agenda if elected into office. No one really cares about her self accomplishments, her kids graduating from college or several relationships gone bad..

She probably should have stayed in Atlanta where it appears she was well cared for.

    • Anonymous says:

Now that sounds like denial, so the polls should answer that question, but interesting that responsibility is being passed elsewhere, for eg on the messengers below

      • Anonymous says:

Leave the poor lady alone — give her a chance..
        She just might surprise you.

    • Anonymous says:

Hmmm I have read a number of the comments below. Some on the savvy individual but most were questioning her character and integrity to do the right thing if elected to the LA, not a relationship gone bad.

I do believe that savvy man was wrong for putting their business out there the way he did — But, I am curious, as to what would drive a man to respond on social media at that level and in the manner in which he did. Since we have not heard from her on this issue— my guess is that no one likes being played for a fool. Which brings into question, the msgs below about her character, integrity and the ability to be honest.

I really like Catherine, generally speaking I think she is an awesome person. As an elected official— hmmmm?????

I think she should go back into college teaching, advanced writing skills, educational training and writing for various publications. Again, she is very very talented, I’m just not sure what she would do as an elected official. Over the years, her track record of being self centered and having a sharp tongue doesn’t go over very well. This has nothing to do with a relationship gone bad.

    • Anonymous says:

Voters will vote based her “proven” ability to serve & represent the constituents of GTS effectively and with integrity.

Not 1 bad publicized relationship. — Really
Please give us some credit of intelligence.

      • Anonymous says:

And where’s this proven ability/track record that you speak of because I do NOT know of any!

        • Anonymous says:

I think she is a very nice person, educational training, writing publication and radio is her strength.. She should stay in her lane. Again, she is a nice person — just not for politics…

    • Anonymous says:

Looking for a nice salary, while doing nothing. Highly educated lady with a nice voice, not right for being one of our leaders.

    • Anonymous says:

Yea right! LMAO … you clearly are the ONLY person prepared to defend Catherine. Where are all her friends?

The one vindictive person told his side of the story and provided evidence and it looked very damning to me.

How is she even eligible to run if she was there living with him for 9 mos? She had better read the Elections Law VERY VERY carefully! He posted her license and medical bills to prove she living there and potentially committing fraud over there. I’m sure his insurance company would love to see her make a residency claim now stating she was resident in Cayman!!

      • Anonymous says:

Yep — He did provide clear cut evidence to which she has not responded. I still thinks she is a nice person with a lot of potential. Just not in politics..

  3. Anonymous says:

Did she do any polling to see if people actually wanted to put her into public office? Seems she could have saved herself a lot of money and headache if she did!

  4. deLEON CARDOSA says:

    What a Joke!!!
She needs to go look a real job (try holding it a lil bit longer than a few months or a year) try doing some real work while you are there, and not sitting watching yourself on tv, your past is apparently catching up with you.

People remember you for who you really are and the hardships you placed on people who needed your help when you were a social worker, you were very heartless.

No one wants to hear your “life story” no one cares.
    No HIGH LIFE for you
    #wannabejetsetter

Good luck! But I don’t see anything of substance there. Where are these people coming out from? Is it possible we miscalculated OMOV? Seems anyone looking for a paycheck is now coming out of the woods and not the impressive kind of candidates either.

I attended a course with Ms. Tyson and this I’m perfect mentality won’t get us far.

  7. Anonymous says:

Is she part of Dr. T’s ensemble? Why is he supporting “independents” sounds more like another party AKA C4C.

  8. Anonymous says:

I saw in Cayman Reporter that she left her government job in 2013 in order to run for public office. I’m puzzled by this – why leave your job 4 years before an election? That doesn’t make any sense. In that time she did not take up any community projects at all. With all that free time on her hands you would think she could have done more to help others.

Instead she was in Atlanta living with her new beau who posted evidence of this on social media. Posted her driver’s license with his address, her medical insurance coverage for both her and the daughter etc. – all expenses he paid for.

So it’s pretty clear that financially she couldn’t afford to leave that job if she needed someone in the USA to put her on insurance to get medical treatments done.

This inability to be able to manage your own personal affair concerns me to be honest. What makes us, the voters, think she can do a better job at managing our affairs?

There’s also a recurring theme of using men for financial gain and not being as self sufficient as she wishes people to believe.

I was unable to attend the launch this evening but would appreciate her addressing these concerns head on and with complete honesty.

    • Anonymous says:

When did she take the government deal on early retirement package!

      • Anonymous says:

I think she left government with the retirement package which means she can’t work for government for at least five years after that.

I guess Radio Cayman must be outside the scope of ‘government department’ or it was a contractual thing that we the public don’t know about and her retirement package was different the rules for the one who actually believes she is perfect.

If the plan was to use her to help get rid of Alden, wrong strategy (although with you on removing Alden).

Guess the Tomlinson team will be getting all her speeches written for her because she only talks about herself, period.

    • deLEON CARDOSA says:

      I agree 1000% with you.
      Not Qualified!!! Next…..

  9. Anonymous says:

Referring to her articles in the Reporter from late November to weeks in December she talked about her experiences with love and friend betrayal. How many relationships have she had since she separated from her husband ? 3 ? The most recent according to her Facebook page in her own words “whining up on her new guy that she crashed into a few weeks ago”. Now is this the type of representative we want ? We need our young people to respect our leaders. What happened to that guy she crashed into that she was whining up on ? Can’t she stay in a relationship or is she too self centered ? Or did they leave when the using started ? Now talk about jobs ? How many have she had ? She’s not stable yet wants to give advice..girl take a seat, but not in the LA!!!

    • Anonymous says:

Well at least I’m now getting at least a little taste of the ‘social media scandal” referred to earlier. Sounds like she’s a little more colourful than we thought…..

    • Anonymous says:

Why is it your business if she able to attract a man. Are you having problems in that area? Be more concerned about her ability or lack thereof to be good representative.Do you believe that a woman who does not ‘whine’ up on a man is better qualified to be a Mla than one who does not? Just asking.

  10. Anonymous says:

Catherine can you advise the people of the Cayman Islands moreso the people in GTS what contributions have you made to the community. Don’t tell us contributions like when you worked Social Services etc because you were paid for that.

  11. Anonymous says:

Well, I’m enjoying my Saturday morning coffee and can’t believe what I’m reading here. Is she for real?! After all of the scandal lately? Wow! So it would appear that everyone wants to be a politician now once they get their 15 mins of fame on the radio. What a mess this is! However, a lil bit of advice to you guys that are open and honest with your views on this young lady that feels she is soooo qualified to represent us…. be careful how you express your opinions, she has a very sharp tongue and won’t hesitate to tell you you’re out of order! Take dat! LOL. I’ll get back to my coffee now and switch to some other news that is more interesting. Happy Saturday Folks!

    • Anonymous says:

What we need in the LA are people with sharp minds and the ability to work hard for the people. Neither of which I’m convinced this candidate has.

Sharp tongue is one thing – not likely to get you far as a politician!

Sorry but she couldn’t get a vote from me!

      • Anonymous says:

Agree! She is really an empty vessel except for fact that she can talk about herself all day long

  12. Anonymous says:

Now that’s thinking, does she think ‘launch’ a campaign has to be near a boat dock?

She took that one literally, wonder if she ever been to a campaign rally, ever been involved in politics?

Does she understand listening, then possibly repeating what she heard as a host is not political experience when all she did was talk about herself?

  13. Justice says:

    WHEN will my people change

Im reading these comments and its very obvious that the crab in the bucket mentality seems to never cease amongst you bunch.

When will we learn to stoo being so judgemental, revengeful and unforgiving.

Give the Woman a Chance to prove herself before you use your mouths to tear her down.

Life n death is in the power of the tongue. And those who love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

By the way I am Caymanian born and breed and I know what you bunch are like when you see potential in someone you feel are not deserving based on their background.

Thankful God is not like man.

Leave the Woman alone. She may yet be the one to help keep food on your tables.

    A very concerned Caymanian

    • Anonymous says:

So, based on her entry into politics, you think it means she’s entitled to only receive positive commentary?

I’m sorry, Justice, but our islands are a democracy. That means we all have the right to constructively criticise, whether positively or negatively, any person who intends to contest an election.

Tyson knows full well that she is not exempt from this either. If she has the backbone to withstand the constant comments, questions and scrutiny, she will be just fine.

Hopefully, she’ll take these online posts with a grain of salt; doing otherwise would mean she is truly unfit to be a leader.

      • Anonymous says:

Thank you for this sensible response. ALL candidates have to be open to criticism.

  14. Anonymous says:

Maybe she is catering to the South Sounders (sic)!

  15. With held says:

It says she is qualified but has it been proven?? No

  16. Anonymous says:

Oh Lord help us! She was involved in a recent online social media scandal and then decides to declare? Well let’s give her credit for having some big balls!

Seriously what track record does she have even? Don’t recall her being involved in the community at all. All about self.

Her greatest success she claims are her children. Ummmm … yea ok then! That’s fine but what else have you done?

How about saving your $1,000? I understand you may need it since jobs are in short supply.

  17. Anonymous says:

I believe a candidate should live and be from the area they are running in right?? Isn’t that the whole point having a person to help you from your area??

  18. Anonymous says:

oh dear, she wanted a maritime theme to her launch

  19. Anonymous says:

I am most certainly intrigued. This is my area.
I hope she doesn’t campaign on a “Lighten Up” message.
What we need is to “Tighten Up”.

I also hope that she has some good, solid, bedrock Caymanian values, not the flim-flam, nouveau-Caymanian (all things to all people bullshit) of the last 2 governments.

  20. Anonymous says:

What is the rules for where candidates run? Doesn’t she live in Savannah?

  21. Anonymous says:

So what about us people that want to launch our boats. Where we supposed to go?

  22. Anonymous says:

    Qualifications?

She had a degree in Social Work and Psychology and a Masters in Social Work

      • Anonymous says:

Oh, well that’s okay then! Excellent qualification to be a legislator!

        • Anonymous says:

But, like so many MLAs over the years, she has never held down a real job in the real world for any length of time.

      • Anonymous says:

How long was she a social worker?

Another of Mr. Darts puppets. Personally, I’ve found her to be full of herself, lacking a sincere interest in the welfare of others and her word generally lacking integrity- which, come to think of it, imminently qualifies her to be a classic politician!
