Bodden Town delivers biggest constituencies on new voter list
(CNS Elections): Election officials have now finished the voters’ enumeration exercise and published the revised electors list, which has 21,465 registered voters and is now available for public scrutiny and checking. The new register clearly demonstrates the rapid growth in Bodden Town: the constituency of BT East has the highest number of voters (1,531) and BT West a close second (1,453). West Bay South is the third largest constituency (1,358 ) and the largest in West Bay.
The smallest constituency is Cayman Brac East with just 506 electors – a third of the numbers in the largest new seat — and Cayman Brac West & Little Cayman (CBWLC) is the second smallest with 612.
The two largest constituencies geographically on Grand Cayman have the least number of voters on that island, though they are roughly even: East End has 719 and North Side has 717.
George Town Central, where PremierPremier of the Cayman Islands More Alden McLaughlinPremier of the Cayman Islands More is expected to stand, is very similar in voter numbers to West Bay West, where his ‘political nemesis’, Opposition Leader McKeeva Bush, will be running, with 1,274 and 1,238 voters respectively.
All seven George Town districts are relatively even, with just 115 voters between the largest and smallest constituencies in the capital. The four West Bay seats are also relatively similar in size to each other and the capital, with a range from 1,358 voters in the largest of WBS to 1,076 in the smallest, which is WBC.
Officials said there were some questions regarding individual addresses not matching official street numbers, which they hope can be cleared up before the list becomes the definitive final register for the 24 May General Election.
Almost 200 voters on the list may be prevented from voting, however several names are on this list due to an error on the part of officials, not the voter, so all registered voters are strongly urged to check the list, even if they have every reason to believe that their registration is sorted.
The list which was finalised on 31 January can be viewed online at here.

An opinion would be that most of those 200 voters are Ghost Caymanians or have migrated to the USA, Canada or England just a food for thought!!!!
Great place to put a dump.
Where? Right in your back yard. Never going to happen.
Interesting that BTE also has no declared candidates as yet.
How come all the constituencies vary in the 1000-1500 range aside from East End, North Side and the Sister Islands? Why wasn’t the size of the constituencies addressed when everything was rearranged into single member constituencies? It’s not equal representation. Surely North Side/East End should be one and the Sister Islands should be one? Even then they wouldn’t be as big as the larger existing constituencies.
There are two main reasons for the growth of Bodden Town: one is the status grants of 2003 which eventually created many new voters of Jamaican origin who live there and the other (which is related) is that fewer and fewer people, voters or not, can find affordable accommodation, either rented or bought, in the more westerly districts (apart from the crime ridden parts of West Bay and George Town).
