TCCP promises governance improvement in manifesto

(CNS): In the TCCP’s 2025 Manifesto, the party has outlined plans to improve the system of governance, putting public interest above special interests and self-interests, and committed to addressing policy issues dominating this election cycle. If elected, the party promises to introduce a new style of government that takes place in the open and not behind closed doors, saying it would implement a robust Parliamentary Code of Conduct and introduce fixed ministry portfolios to deepen expertise and minimise disruption.

One of the commitments the party is making to voters in the document published last week is “leading with integrity, holding to our values no matter the pressure and standing up for what is right”.

While the party has detailed its plans to address issues surrounding the cost of living, the immigration system, affordable housing, education, access to affordable healthcare and threats to the environment, they have also made a commitment to improve governance in general.

“Our pledge to you is leadership that listens, unites, includes you and delivers key measurable results,” TCCP Leader André Ebanks said at the front of the manifesto.

The manifesto states: “Good governance and strong institutions are the foundation of a fair society, where the rule of law is upheld, and no one is above the law. TCCP is built on the principles of accountability and integrity, with a party constitution that enshrines our objectives, structure, leadership, ethics and operations to ensure all candidates are aligned to the party’s values and vision.

“We say enough is enough to bad governance, irresponsible spending, side deals and undue influence from special interests.”

In addition to introducing a Parliamentary Code of Conduct, the party said it would strengthen the Standards in Public Life and Anti-Corruption Acts. It also plans to implement electoral reform, including greater regulation of campaign financing, a recall provision, and the removal of voter addresses from the electoral register. The TCCP would also assess and consider voter system reform in the face of growing public concern that the current system is failing voters.

The party said it would be fiscally responsible by controlling government spending, proactively planning for long-term prosperity, looking ahead in decades rather than election cycles, and being resilient in an unpredictable world. It also has a plan to transition to outcome-based budgeting and reporting to better assess government spending with enhanced transparency, increased accountability, improved resource allocation and better decision-making based on data.

The TCCP has plans to examine the possibility of fixed ministries to ensure continuity, deepen expertise, and minimise the inefficiencies and disruption caused by the reshuffling of departments and agencies in the wake of every election.

The manifesto also points to the necessary respect for collective responsibility, with open discussions informing decision-making that all members of Cabinet can support. The party also promises to engage in timely communication with the public, explaining the rationale for decisions, providing progress updates, listening to feedback and complying with audit requirements.

“A stronger, fairer Cayman Islands needs leadership with the courage and impartiality to make difficult decisions, institutions with respect and authority, and a public informed and confident to speak up for what they believe in,” the party said.

According to the TCCP’s 2025 Manifesto, “…the party has outlined plans to improve the system of governance, putting public interest above special interests and self-interests, and committed to addressing policy issues dominating this election cycle”. But they are so wutless that they have neglected to field candidates for the two Sister Islands districts. That alone proves their manifesto to be putrid bullshite. How the hell can you “improve the system of governance” if you do not even try to provide representation for all the districts in the Cayman Islands?

Also in their BS manifesto: “The Caymanian Community Party (TCCP) has officially nominated 10 candidates for the upcoming General Election, reinforcing its commitment to principled leadership and community-centred governance. With this diverse and experienced team, TCCP is ready to contest all 10 seats and lead a government that puts Caymanians first.”
How the hell can you have “community-centred governance” when you have left out two of the three Cayman Islands and are fielding candidates for little more than half of the districts?
TCCP: A new Clown Car enters the race.

In giving it more thought, how the hell could anyone expect anything more than a pile of BS from a party that has among its members the leader of the failed Panton-PACTless Clown Car?

Until there are changes to governance, as only proposed by TCCP, and then to the Elections Law (which they stop short of championing), there are going to be a couple turds in the political sandwich. Voters need to understand why that is to fix it. Then let the light shine in.

We’ve needed a bigger prison since the 1990s. Dangerous recidivists are currently being released early to give way for new arrivals, reoffending and spiraling crime rates. There is no relief without more capacity.

Naming a public facility after a politician is obscene.
Have there not been any outstanding medical caregivers who more well deserve such an honour? Outside of the renaming speeches and news pieces, I have never heard anyone on the street call the Cayman Brac airport “Charles Kirkconnell” airport. Since there is only one airport on the islands, Brackers simply call it “the airport”. Caymanians call it “the Brac airport”.

While I would not want to see name changes so regular that one has to think a moment to recall the present name (Cable and Wireless? LIME? FLOW? Whatthehell is it now anyway?), I should hope that the name of the hospital will be changed to something more inclusive and less political.

The word “pier” is nowhere to be found in their manifesto. And here is every sentence that contains the word “cruise”.

Balance investments in stayover tourism, such as modernising airport infrastructure, with supporting a sustainable cruise sector guided by the outcome of the
    referendum on cruise berthing facilities
    • Improve revenue from cruise passengers for watersports, transportation and other operators by negotiating with cruise lines

They sure had a lot to say didn’t they? Where does the TCCP stand if half of the people vote “yes” and half of the people vote “no”. Or if there is a 53 to 47 split? Do they build half of a dock?
