CNS readers poll finds Red Bay up for grabs

(CNS): Well over 60% of CNS readers who took part in our online straw poll agreed on which candidates would win in four of the five open seats this election cycle. When we asked readers to put on their pundit hats and predict the winners of the seats, which could be the deciders for 2025, they were on the same page for GTW, GTS, WBN and CBWLC. But readers were split when it came to Red Bay, the seat being vacated by former premier Sir Alden McLaughlin.
More than three-quarters (77%) of readers who voted in the online straw poll predicted that Nickolas DaCosta (CINP) will win Cayman Brac West and Little Cayman, swamping his challenger, Lonny Tibbetts (IND), despite his endorsement by the retiring incumbent, Moses Kirkconnell.
More than two-thirds of readers (69%) believe that Craig Merren (CINP) will win George Town West, the seat left open by the retirement of David Wight (PPM), beating his three opponents easily, and 63% of those who took part in the fun poll predicted that Rolston Anglin (IND) will win Bernie Bush’s open West Bay North seat.
In George Town South, 62% of the 685 votes cast predicted a win for Gary Rutty (CINP), even though Barbara Conolly, another PPM stalwart who is stepping down, has anointed Craig Frederick, who only managed to convince 8% of our readers that he could win.
However, just one-third of CNS readers believe that McLaughlin will be passing the Red Bay baton to his PPM replacement, Roy Tatum. Of the 614 people that took part in that poll, 28% said Natasha Whitelock (TCCP) would take the seat and 24% called a win for Dawn Thomas (CINP).
With the majority of incumbents expected to retain their seats, these five open seats could be where the winners shape the next government, and any of them could prove pivotal.

What is clear is that carving up the districts, except EE and NS, into smaller constituencies with a handful of electors and more MPS is not a good model for the Cayman Islands. Unfortunately, I have not heard any candidate or ‘party’ speak clearly about constitutional reform except one of the party leaders, who touched on it briefly during the three-part leaders’ debate.
Is there any candidate or Party that is against building a cruise ship terminal?
Vote Phillip Ebanks.
Wasn’t Gould accused of something? People will really vote for him after that scandal? How is he better than Mac? Except Mac as bad as he is has added value.
Was listening to him on the radio the other day and apparently they just premiered a “song” he paid Gramps Morgan to make for his campaign. Imagine not hiring one of the multitude of local artists to create it for you, while telling us you will be looking out for the best interests of Caymanians. Maybe he couldn’t actually find a Caymanian artist willing to work with him? It certainly couldn’t be that he wanted a higher quality product because that lil jingle he paid Gramps for was *awful*.

Both parties have young candidates who can’t dedicate themselves to getting qualifications yet mislead the public into thinking that they are scientists.
Ahhh, i thought there were 3 parties? Who did you miss?
Ppm doesn’t have anyone claiming to be scientist do they?
Just a drunk-driving, faux-multilingual astrologer.
But they tell us they are all rocket scientists and brain surgeons poised to solve all our problems.
Red Bay is like most of the other constituencies, held hostage by not having anyone worth the time and effort it takes to go out and vote.
Wake up and go listen to the candidates.
We all know that CINP has bots voting on CNS and TCCP has bots voting on CMR. It’s not difficult to see. Completely different results to the same polls depending on which website you visit.
This comment was brought to you by the PPM troll.
Go back under your bridge.
It takes 30 second for you to confirm this is true.
It’s interesting to read the Red bay chat are so frustrated that the chat group has been taken over by the relentless barrage of pro-pier posts ,by the same posters.
Clearly this is an indication of anti PPM cruise pier proposal.
Please respect diverse view points.
Diverse opinions is not the problem, the problem is the relentless barrage of the same pro pier propaganda from the same 3 people.
Sick of it.
I understand they have now been banned from posting.
Peace over Easter until the elections.
well, even if that is the case (which I doubt) – why don’t the PPM have people voting? don’t they have any?
