McKeeva Bush and Julie Hunter make a paid-for appearance on Radio Cayman

(CNS): McKeeva Bush (IND) caused a social media storm on Wednesday after seemingly being rude to Julie Hunter (CINP), the challenger for his WBW seat. Bush, who has represented West Bay for 40 years, and Hunter, as well as Sterling Dwayne Ebanks (IND), who is running in WBS, appeared on Radio Cayman in one of a series of candidate debates.

According to the government-owned station’s disclaimer before the show, unlike the Chamber forums, these events are paid for by the candidates. The show’s format also differs slightly, as the candidates are given time for rebuttals to their opponents’ responses in some rounds.

But after Wednesday’s show, Bush was the subject of a number of memes and viral posts by people who thought he disrespected Hunter by making a point of reading documents, including his own manifesto, while she was speaking.

Hunter nevertheless managed to hold her own throughout the debate and challenged Bush’s record in office on a number of issues. She said the district had “been sold a bag of promises for far too long”, none of which had been delivered.

“Experience does not equal good leadership,” she said, addressing critics of the twelve CINP candidates, none of whom have ever been elected to office.

During the course of the paid-for debate, Bush dismissed all of the legal troubles he has had during his political career, maintaining that the allegations made against him were “all lies”. Talking about why he was running again after four decades in office, he said that the issues in Cayman “are huge”, and they can’t be “just slighted over”.

All lies? when there is a video of him assaulting a woman inside her workplace? This man really think people are a bunch of fools.

Mac can only be Mac. It’s like asking a snake to walk upright. It just can’t happen. He will be rude because that is who he is. It is who he will always be.

Mac being voted out – guess it will happen one day. If I was a betting person all of my chips/money would be for Mac keeping his seat. . . perhaps Miss Julie can go back to work for him.

This is the same Sunday-saint, weekday sinner lady that was with Mac all these years. What’s the difference with electing her?

She won’t get drunk and beat up women, she won’t use the Govt credit card to gamble, she won’t take apartments as gifts, etc etc….that’s the difference.

Sorry you had to be in the same room as this creep, but glad to see you kept your distance, and your dignity.
    Good luck on April 30th.

Well done Ms Hunter, hopefully enough voters will finally see this embarrassing low life to help you get rid of him, for all our sakes.
