Choose your dream government
(CNS): Nomination Day has come and gone, so we now know who will be running where. Come Election Day, registered voters will be able to vote for one candidate in the constituency where they are registered. But what if you could vote in every constituency?
CNS conducted a straw poll in 2023 and found that most people who participated were in favour of at least some at-large (territory-wide) MPs, and 36% wanted all MPs to be voted in by all of the electorate.
That day may never come, but here on CNS you can at least vote for the candidate of your choice in all 19 constituencies in the 19 straw polls below. Check the CNS map to see if the candidates are running with a party or as independents, or the list of candidates to see the full slate of each party.
The results of the actual elections will show what the district electorate wants, but these polls will give an indication of island-wide aspirations, which may be very different and might nudge some of our political thinkers into considering the benefits of at-large MPs in this territory.
CNS note: If one of the candidates suddenly goes from last place to first in one of the polls and the cause is a suspiciously large number of votes from the same handful of IP addresses, I will delete those votes. The supporters of one candidate had a fun time this weekend beating the system. Seriously, folks, cheating is not a good look. Find a better way to support them.

So my question is this. How many ACTUAL Cayman Brac East persons ACTUALY voted???
Cause the last poll had Dan Scott with 746… only one little issue and that is there is only 532 +/- votes in CBE… So how reliable are these polls??? Does not seem very reliable if people even in China can vote….
CNS: Read the blurb before the polls. It will explain what the poll is and what it isn’t.
The poll should have asked if the participant is a registered voter.
Choose wisely Cayman. The road ahead is bumpy with international trade war supply impacts, a must-pass FATF inspection (previously citing corruption, obstruction, money laundering), an uninsurable world entering a period of super storms, and the ghosts of PPM past in the form of billions in unreported maturing liabilities. We need smart people with their heads screwed on.

I see everyone talking about PPM and that’s fair but lets not forget about what a TCCP led government would look like; we got a clear view of what type of leadership Wayne Panton did and dont for one second believe that Andre is the “leader” of that party, he is only the face of it. We all know who is paying for them big electronic signs and their marketing…
My advide is to vote them all out, PPM and TCCP! Vote them all out because they all had the chance to do something while they were in power and nothing was done… I repeat NOTHING!

The only thing that the PPM and UDP/UMP ‘experienced’ candidates did was take our money, make idiotic statements and fail to solve any of the problems facing Cayman. Why the hell would I vote for any of them this time????

Could you name one specific policy, change, or movement that Andre or Wayne has brought forward that has genuinely improved the lives of the Caymanian people? I’m curious to hear an example of their tangible impact.

No he did not. There are a lot of points that need addressing to get off the blacklist. Most of which were already accomplished before he took over. He just carried it over the line. You are speaking on something that you know nothing about.
Andre is THE only one in the TCCP that did anything credible. Thus he should be the only TCCP candidate that gets in. What did Wayne do? What did Heather do? What did Kathy do?
I’m not voting for any candidate that slights other candidates in a desperate attempt for attention. Its not a good look. I’m not voting for anyone who says ‘my people’. Its our people. They don’t own us and we have seen their decision making process and how they disenfranchise Caymanians always thinking they know better than their voters (whilst serving their own interests and those of others).
Our voices, our choices, and those of our youth are the ones that matter.
Just give us change. No more PPM or anyone in current top leadership positions. Let’s see how it goes, it absolutely cannot get worse for most of us. We cannot afford to live beyond our paychecks and even then, we’re borrowing as we watch the very entitled few drive around in their 00,000$ cars and spend like fun at overly expensive restaurants without a care in the world. Those people will all be fine. But the 90%+ of us need total change.
Um, we just tried that last time with PACT. Wayne was ousted by his own people and then a bunch more quit just in time to form a new party for this election in the hopes that you would forget they were ever part of PACT. We need stability, not another experiment! The PACT government was the worst government Cayman has seen for decades and people are still talking about PPM? Name one single, minute this PACT achieved in the last 4 years….

To 10:21am It was a member of the PACT that got Cayman out of the grey list and it took patience, sweat, tears, negotiation and diplomacy; and it was a member of the PACT who brought the Merchant Shipping Law, which put Cayman in a position to earn higher revenues from the world’s maritime industry.
There were 63 items that needed to be resolved to get us off the grey list. the PPM Government achieved 60 and Andre took the final three over the line with the work done before by the PPM. The patience, sweat, tears, negotiation and diplomacy was mostly on the part of the PPM. Work on modernising merchant shipping rules were also started under the PPM.
Get your facts in chronological order and make no mistake: The PPM missing the EU deadline, which they had ample time to meet is the ONLY reason we ended up on the grey list in the first place. I work in financial services and know first-hand how damaging that was for Cayman.
If you aren’t smart enough to understand why they pulled Julianna’s collective bargaining quorum in parliament, then you are part of Cayman’s problem.
It would be a great help if CNS could gather and publish what level of education some of these candidates have obtained.

GIANT caveat people: this is a poll of everyone (voters and non-voters) no matter what district they live in. This is THEIR dream government, NOT (necessarily) the dream government of those who live and vote in the districts. If its change you’re hoping for, don’t get your hopes up too high based on this poll.
At the very least this type of poll demonstrates the strong desire for national elections. If the election results are very different then hopefully people will see the need for a People-Initiated Referendum to force politicians to enact a national vote.
Agreed. Should create a poll that only allows you to vote for one. OMOV Then we may get a better representation but still flawed because those who are not registered can vote.

I do mot believe this POLL is accurately showing the will of the people, one easy way to tell is CBE… tbere is ONLY 535 registered voters in CBE but for some miracle, or BOTS, DAN has over 700+ votes???? Seems like those in his party are clicking the buttons hard….
I also know CNS does have a very biased way of teporting news…

TCCP cannot win with their unqualified candidates. This Slate is tuned down version of PACT but just as incompetent. Andre and Wayne knows this. Why are they willing to give us another 4 years of drama and incompetence.
They stumbled out of the gate with the Russian name CCP and has been bumpling every since.
Andre and Wayne would make good Ministers but they will have to sell their souls once again. Enough is enough.

PPM party is a thing of the past! The party is NOT the same party as in years past, the party has changed its focus.
It is my opinion and views that I cannot trust any of the PPM candidates to do what is best for the country. Similar lines is TCCP who walked away from the table – they did not stay and fight they, in my opinion, showed that they are weak. I want a full team who will stand who will stay in the ring, who will look out for the best interest of Cayman people and its residents, for a more sustainable Cayman in future. My opinion that will NOT be PPM nor TCCP party!
I will not be voting for who I like. I will not be voting for those who have the “experience”, because many who have and may use that as their tag-line showed have shown me that you are exactly not who I should be voting for. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me PPM and TCCP!

PPM took us through Covid. The most testing time any government has faced in Cayman for decades. Think about what would have happened if Wayne “Peter Griffen” Panton and Sabrina “Luther King” Turner were in those seats.

Whatever unna do please do NOT vote Sabrina Turner back in, she just looking a pay check to pay back that loan from Wayne Panton. A coalition government of CINP and TCCP is our best hope, I agree, but Sabrina don’t need to be any part of that if we can be honest.
I agree regarding Sabrina. But a CINP and TCCP coalition will never happen. Wayne and Dan are too proud to not be in control. If you think Andre will actually be the boss in TCCP, I have some magic beans to sell you. Andre will have the title of Premier, Wayne will have the last say.
As a Prospect voter, with about 7 other family members voting in Prospect, we will not be voting for Sabrina. I didn’t the last time and now my family members have also smelled the coffee.
Polls like these mean nothing. All 3 parties have some good candidates and the poll suggests people voted based on party affiliation and not a dream government.

Unfortunately the point of a party is to get people to vote for the party.
Your statement is a bit like saying, if this poll were run in the UK or USA, that people would NOT choose by party affiliation. When many of the voters in each country do vote by party rather than based on the individual running.
Whether people vote party first, or the candidates & supporters self-select into parties that match them, is an open question. But I think in many people its a case of ‘I chose this party so I hold my nose and vote for this candidate, because I cannot imagine the other party/candidate being good’. And in those voters the Party has done its job for the party.
Great poll, thank you. Now do the inverse, who do we most NOT want to represent us. It’s a slightly different measure than the person who gets the least votes in this poll.

There are multiple candidates in several districts that have shown again and again that they should never hold any positions of trust, handle money, make laws, or direct policy.
Yet sadly, they keep getting voted back in.

Of leaders Scott, Johnson, Rutty and Merren offers much hope and encouragement for the Cayman Islands people. Solid track records in business as well as new much needed vision and integrity.
Some lack vision and integrity, and I know at least one who is domineering, disorganised and disrespects his workforce. I wish Dan would join forces with TCCP as I wouldn’t vote for anyone else in his crew. However I recently losing respect for Dan too for the recent freedom of speech law suit and he and/or his parties approach of disrespecting and smearing other political hopefuls throughout the ongoing election campaign. Its not a good look.
He’s filing the lawsuit against a crazy woman who stole money from him in the past… we’d all do the same

I am an ex-gratia pensioner who cannot get a Cinico Coverage due to the I resigned from Govt and not retired in service. Please can the New Govt enact in law that all Pensioners whether by resignation or retirement be automatically covered by Cinico Insurance.It is not fair for me and others to be paying Cinico Insurance from our monthly Pension Payments.which we can barely survive off.

Mr. Hew is not qualified to be the Premier. He lacks basic skills, intelligence, integrity and has zero academic or professional qualifications.
The Cayman Islands needs an educated, professional grade and experienced leader with a proven track record of success outside of the political arena. These core competencies he does not possess.
We need a person that understands what makes the Cayman Islands successful and will continue to make pertinent decisions for the country thrive for all not just a select few friends, family members, rotarians and others that will provide a slice of the pie.
I have seen how Mr. Hew operates with his circle of friends or business partners that all benefit from the schemes.
If given the choice between Mr. Hew, Mr. Andre Ebanks and Mr. Dan Scott as a future Premier it is obvious to many that Mr. Hew is not in the same class or character. The choice for the masses would be simple and thankfully it would not be Mr. Hew.

Dan Scott is not even going to win his constituency. Your should be looking at who would take the reigns should his party get majority. You underestimate what Julianna does for her Brac people, whether we like it or not, she getting back in.

Don’t look at the man’s qualifications, look at the Man, and in this case be aware of who the man will bring with him.

If we want to be honest about who could be the best qualified person for Premier, it might not necessarily be anyone from the parties. The person that comes to my mind, has already proven that he is capable of representing us well abroad and has a proven track record of getting things done. I am not saying he will be Premier, but I’m saying his name should definitely be in the mix for consideration. His name is Rolston Anglin!

It is clear now that any vote for any PPM candidate adds to the likelihood of Juju plus Kenneth and their spend spend band will be in charge of the check book.
We do not need it nor can afford it but if PPM become the government here comes the cruise port to break the bank and destroy GT and the public beach.

ANYTHING is better than a PPM government or PPM led Coalition especially with Joey Hew potentially as Premier.
PPM will not address the real issues particularly the need for significant immigration reform and addressing unbridled increasing costs of living issues facing the majority of Caymanians.
They will repeat their Republican style like policies from 2013-2021. They will prioritize the needs of wealthy developers and their donors because those are the people that will fatten their pockets and have already been bought by the elite. The Camana Bay, Salt Creek and Lalique Point posse are licking their chops and desperately need that ROI
Nothing about the PPM has changed at its core just a few new faces on the posters.
