Elections Office picks up pace to prepare for polling day

(CNS): Elections Supervisor Wesley Howell has said the concerns and objections relating to the last register of electors before the general election on 30 April will be published on 26 February. The window for objections closed on Wednesday last week. Over the next 21 days, election officials will go through the challenges and ensure that everyone on the list is registered in the correct constituency and they are all qualified to vote.
Ballot printing will begin immediately after Nomination Day, and voters can begin the process of applying for mobile or postal voting.
Making their second appearance on Radio Cayman this week as the clock counts down to the general election and referendum on 30 April, Howell and Deputy Elections Supervisor Sheena Glasgow outlined what will happen over the next two weeks.
While the process to confirm the 1 April election roll continues, the elections office will begin printing ballots immediately after Nomination Day on 3 March. Registered voters who did not make any changes to their listing can now apply for a mobile or postal ballot online through the Elections Office website. The deadline for both is 17 April.
Those who registered or made changes to their information during this latest registration period will have to wait for their ballot until the clearance process is complete. However, they can apply now. Howell urged all students to go online as soon as possible to ensure they do not miss out on their chance to vote.
He and Glasgow once again urged everyone to vote. Howell advised voters who are disappointed with the choice of candidates in their constituency to go with the least bad option, as he reminded people that your vote is your voice.
Glasgow said that she votes because, as a woman, she is aware of how hard the women before her fought for this democratic right, and it is to honour their efforts. She added that while voting is a right here, it is also a privilege, given how many people in the world don’t have the right to vote.
