(CNS): With two new candidates on their platform, The Cayman Community Party is now fielding five women from a slate of nine candidates, the most of any political party at this point. Natasha Whitelocke and Robert Bodden have announced their intention to run for office on the TCCP ticket in Red Bay and Bodden Town East, respectively.

Whitelocke, in her first bid for office, will be campaigning against Roy Tatum from the Progressives and Dawn Thomas, who is running on the CINP ticket, in the battle for the seat left open by Sir Alden McLaughlin’s retirement.

Robert Bodden is the first candidate to declare he will be taking on the incumbent in the district, Dwayne Seymour. Bodden also ran for office in that constituency in 2017 with the Cayman Democratic Party led by McKeeva Bush.

In a four-way race, he received the second-most votes (367 or just under 33%), while Seymour received 427 votes (38%). However, Seymour increased his majority significantly in 2021 when he got 735 votes (almost 61%) in a two-way race with Bodden’s new political colleague in the TCCP, Osbourne Bodden.

With the new faces on his platform, TCCP Leader André Ebanks said the party’s growing slate of candidates represents a balanced mix of incumbents with valuable public service experience and people with diverse private sector experience from across the Islands. He said they are all deeply committed to their communities and have a shared belief that Cayman’s future depends on caring, community-centred, data-driven, responsible leadership.

“Natasha and Robert are stepping forward because they fully understand that strong, connected communities are the foundation of a thriving Cayman Islands,” Ebanks said. “They’re committed to listening, engaging, and working side by side with the people they hope to represent. Our country needs leaders who see community not as a talking point but as the driving force behind every decision. That’s what the TCCP stands for, and that’s why we’re delighted to welcome them to the team.”

Ebanks said the team is a reflection of the Cayman Islands itself — rooted in solid experience and open to fresh ideas.

“We’ve brought together leaders who have first-hand international and domestic public service experience to help navigate the challenges ahead yet complemented their experience with newer candidates who bring new energy, new ideas and a determination to make a positive difference. It’s a combination we believe is essential for delivering the kind of balanced, innovative leadership our country needs,” he added.

Whitelocke is a paralegal. A release from the TCCP described her as a long-time community advocate who is running to help bridge the gap between residents and their representatives.

“Our community is stronger when everyone has a seat at the table,” she said. “I’m standing to help foster that sense of unity and collaboration and be a voice for Red Bay. The Red Bay community is a strong, growing and resilient community with hardworking, caring people who want to help shape decisions regarding our youth, our seniors and our safety. I would be honoured to be their voice in this and many other respects.”

She joins four other women running on the TCCP tickets: Katherine Ebanks-Wilks, Sabrina Turner, Heather Bodden and Emily Decou.

Robert Bodden, a real estate agent, said his decision to run was driven by the need for policies that support sustainable, long-term growth for all residents.

“We live in a diverse, growing community, and we need leadership that embraces that diversity while planning responsibly for the future. My goal is to help build a stronger, more connected Bodden Town East — one where businesses can thrive, families can feel secure, and everyone has a fair opportunity to succeed,” he said.

The Caymanian Community Party has said it is focused on promoting inclusive, accountable governance that reflects the needs and aspirations of all Caymanians. The party remains committed to policies that prioritise community well-being, sustainable economic growth, and shared prosperity.

At this point, it is also the only registered party that has clearly committed to protecting the National Conservation Act and ensuring that the experts and scientists remain on the council to protect Cayman’s natural heritage and resources. The party has also stated on the record that while it will continue to build out the East-West Arterial extension, it will direct the NRA to construct B2, the route recommended by the Environmental Assessment Board that is both greener and less expensive.

I totally understand that many are simply tired of repeating what seems to be a pointless exercise (electing MPs); but we cannot desist. We are blessed to live in a democracy. Our votes are counted and the results reflect our decision, good or bad. In other countries people vote, but those who can pay the election officials’ mortgage for that month, get the votes counted in their favor. People kill each other in the street defending their vote, not understanding that their party did not “lose”. It simply sold their votes to the competitor! So, as much as you consider our process is broken, it still works. Yes! We need better candidates, so if we believe that our friends, our neighbors, are capable, then let’s ask them to consider running for office.

Not that it’s much better, but at least he’s an actual realtor and not a realtor’s lapdog like Joey “Who?”

Still waiting to see manifestos outlining what each group/candidate sees as the main problems together with their proposed solutions. Photo ops and hot air counts for nothing. no manifesto – no vote

Better yet, we need a manifesto, signed and with completion dates for each promised agenda item.

”We will lower the cost of living by [ ] in these ways, by enacting this policy and amending this law”… etc etc

When a party choses to use that talk show thats irrelevant as their PR mouthpiece- this is enough to make me look past that party. 2 teats on a boar hog is better than TCP

Sandra is a bottom-feeder on her best day, but to call her platform “irrelevant” just shows how out of touch you are with reality. I think all of us wish it wasn’t this way, but her show is one of the most viewed/listened to in Cayman (scary thought).

TBH, she has come a long, long way from CMR a decade ago. She really scraped the barrel back then.

I listened to a few of her political shows lately and was pleasantly surprised at her explaining to listeners to ask questions and vote more responsibly, instead of voting back in the same old crap who give out turkeys/ pies at Christmas and handouts every election cycle.

Let’s not forget here that a big block of voters are dedicated listeners so credit to her for her efforts in that regard otherwise we’re more likely to end up with the same donkeys we have now.

Talk show might be irrelevant to you, but it isn’t to a lot of voters who might otherwise be voting back in the same/another pile of crap. And they’re on all platforms not CMR exclusively.

Don’t let your personal feelings screw with your ability to be reasonably objective.

So the only option against John John is a realtor who spends most of his time in Jamaica? Like this is the really the best this constituency could offer? The same brudda that’s been trying to get me to sell my family land to him for the sake of developers to get their hands on it and do as they wish lol? Disgrace.

Sorry, André. Sabrina and Ozzie are a no for me. I am willing to give the others the benefit of the doubt and even so, I am very weary, because apathy and corruption are rampant in the civil service and upper government respectively and it will take serious political will to let the chips fall where they may so that people can finally face the law and pay consequences. The people selling drugs are distributing for people way, way up, and we all know it.

What are you smoking? André and Wayne are the only ones with the political will to change the status quo and tackle the very issues you speak of. All the rest want it to continue.
