(CNS): The PPM has finally confirmed that Roy Tatum will be the party’s candidate for Red Bay in April, succeeding six-term MP and former premier Sir Alden McLaughlin. Tatum, a long-time member of the Progressives who has been working behind the scenes for many years to help shape party policy, will be stepping into the public gaze with his first run at a seat.

Tatum and his family have lived in Red Bay for more than 25 years, and the party believes he has the “experience, integrity, and vision” to continue delivering for the people of the district.

“For decades, Tatum has been a driving force in the PPM and in public service, working alongside McLaughlin as Head of the Office of the Premier and helping shape national policies,” the party said in a release confirming his candidacy. “A 33-year veteran of the banking sector, he understands the economic realities facing Caymanians and brings a steady hand to the challenges ahead.”

Over the years, Tatum has been a key part of the PPM leadership team, serving as George Town branch chairman and current vice chairman, as well as supporting the former premier, who backed him wholeheartedly.

“Roy Tatum has been a steadfast ally in the fight for good governance, a stable economy, and a Cayman that works for its people,” McLaughlin said. “He has the commitment, the knowledge, and the experience to represent Red Bay with strength and dedication. There is no doubt in my mind — Roy is the right choice to carry forward the progress we have built.”

PPM Leader Joey Hew said he had no doubt that Tatum would deliver real results as he continues Sir Alden’s legacy. “Roy is a dedicated team player who has the experience and dedication to enhance the lives of the people of Red Bay and to shape policies that benefit Caymanians,” the leader said.

At this point, Tatum is lined up in a head-to-head match with Dawn Thomas, who is running on the CINP ticket.

Alden like the rest of recipients are not deserving nor qualified morally nor professionally for such a title as is those who nominated or submit their names for this colonial loyalists scheme.

Anyone working in CIG and private sector will tell you he ran Caucus well. Give the man credit where he deserves it. The last PACT bunch ran Caucus in a boxing ring – yes it did get violent!
    Good luck Roy

It is obvious that the PPM is desperate for people. It is unsettling and embarrassing to watch. Furthermore, I think Alden has now realized that they are in dire straits.

So, Alden says: “Roy Tatum has been a steadfast ally in the fight for good governance, a stable economy, and a Cayman that works for its people,”

Well, doesn’t look like he achieved much of any of that while with the PPM

Tatum was a disaster as the Head of Caucus for the PPM Govts. To be nice, there was often confusion and lots of delays with communications from Caucus.

After all the recent utterances about Joey wanting to team up with Kenneth, and maybe Dwayne, in my view, a bowel movement would have more integrity than the PPM

Roy still doesn’t have a clue this is a great example of how far the ppm ship is sinking

I am a civil servant and can say the Caucus meetings that Mr Tatum and the PPM had were organised, and decisions were made and communicated. He was always helpful to civil servants, and many of us found him effective and professional. If he wins a seat and is in government, he will start as the only new MP with experience and insight into what makes a successful government. I wish him well. If I lived in Red Bay he would have my vote.

I have known Roy for decades. Nice enough person outside of politics.

He has been an operator behind the scenes with the PPM and their backers for a long time.

I won’t be voting for anybody in the PPM this coming election as I don’t want another government with Kenny, Bryan, Mac and Joey being anywhere near power.

I have no opinion on this gentleman. If he can run for office according to the Constitution, may the best candidate win.
My message is for the voters: Regardless of your constituency and who is running there, learn the numbers, research the challenges, find out how much revenue stands to be impacted by what the candidate is saying they will attempt to change, because for anything to change significantly, policies have to be changed and when policies change, revenue is impacted and NO ONE dares to mess with revenue. Just look at Jefferson and the government’s post-retirement figure that does not appear on the balance sheet.
Also, when people get elected they realize that:
    1. They cannot tell us the truth about anything because they all are sworn to secrecy (listen to Alden! He reminded André of it last Friday) and
    2. Civil servants cannot blow the whistle on anything either! They have on a muzzle tighter than a fly’s backside! So, inform yourself and ask the right questions. Do not let anyone make promises they cannot keep — AND do not sell your vote! When you do so, you are selling your teenager, small children and grandchildren’s future. We are here to fight for them, so let’s do our job.
