(CNS): The Progressives have formally announced that Justin Ebanks will be wearing their team colours when he makes his third bid for election in his home district of North Side in April. Ebanks ran as an independent candidate in the constituency in 2017, when he received 12.63% of the vote, and in 2021, when he got 11.7% in a field of four.

Hoping that third time’s lucky, Ebanks has his eye on ousting the incumbent Jay Ebanks, who, so far, is the only other candidate known to be running in the district for 2025.

North Side, the fourth smallest constituency in the Cayman Islands, has seen the biggest rate of growth since the last election. Between the 2021 election register and the new draft roll currently going through confirmation, the number of voters leapt from 836 to a projected 1,009 for the 2025 vote — a jump of almost 21%.

The PPM will also be hoping that Ebanks, who has had a long interest in politics, can deliver the constituency that they have not held since the late Edna Moyle held the seat.

The party said that Ebanks, who spoke at his first political rally when he was just fourteen years old, brings a “fresh and fearless results-driven approach to leadership” and has fought for North Side’s interests for over two decades.

“North Side has remained unchanged for too long,” he said about his PPM candidacy, which is expected to be confirmed at the national conference next month. “As a son of the soil, I understand our struggles and limited opportunities. I will work to deliver real change with PPM’s proven strength behind me.”

He added, “This isn’t about politics as usual; it’s about putting North Side first and bringing back the honesty, unity, trust and progress we deserve.”

PPM Leader Joey Hew welcomed him to the team, “Justin isn’t waiting for an election to serve; he’s been doing the work for decades. His leadership, deep community roots, and proven ability to get things done make him the right choice for North Side. With Justin, the people of North Side will finally have a representative who stands up, speaks out, and delivers.”

I’ve known Justin a long time and admire his entrepreneurial spirit. He helps people in the community but doesn’t take credit.
I watched his debates and he spoke about solutions and not just lip service.
    Best of luck my brother.

Thank you Justin for putting yourself forward again. It shows strength of character.
Jay lied to us and said that he was a PPM Candidate. I cannot support someone who lies just to get into power.
My family and I are voting for you. We can’t come out publicly due to fear of victimization but we support you and know that you will serve North Side well and the country.
