PPM big guns on Brac but ‘ganja man’ fires back

| 12/04/2021

(CNS): Elvis McKeever urged the people of Cayman Brac to pray for his opponent on Sunday morning after three Cabinet ministers travelled to the island on Saturday to help shore up Juliana O’Connor-Connolly’s increasingly challenging race in Cayman Brac East against the self styled ‘ganja man’.

McKeever said that while he was certainly in need of his constituents’ prayers right now, O’Connor-Connolly needed them more. The Progressives’ new party leader, Roy McTaggart, along with Premier Alden McLaughlin and Health Minister Dwayne Seymour, who is running on the PPM Alliance ticket, went to the Sister islands, where not too long ago both seats were considered two of the safest for the party.

But it appears that McKeever has been gaining momentum and is looking more and more like a serious challenge to taking O’Connor-Conolly’s seat after more than 20 years. In her address to the district the education minister largely campaigned on the increase in teachers’ salaries, the boost to scholarships and other claims about how well she has handled the education portfolio.

But in a Facebook response to the PPM meeting on Saturday night, McKeever called out their sudden interest in the decriminalization of ganja.

O’Connor-Connolly had announced from the hustings that she was pressing for a policy to allow the licensed cultivation of medical ganja, as well as wiping clean criminal records from cannabis convictions and supporting a referendum on the question of legalization.

McKeever said it was too late for O’Connor-Connolly to suddenly try and get on the ganja train. He pointed out that she had ignored the petition he collected from Brac voters in 2019 and has refused to meet with him about the possibility of ganja cultivation.

He also called her out for the decision to increase scholarships for students wanting to do teacher training, saying that twenty years ago when people on the Brac were pushing for that policy she had dismissed the idea out of hand.

McKeever said the appearance of the ministers, including Seymour, made him think the PPM must be worried.

“The minister come up ‘ere to come at the ganja man… Sister Julie, you on the ganja train… but there is no seats for you… It’s too late,” McKeever said challenging O’Connor-Connolly to explain why she had failed to hold any meetings alone and why she would not face him on the debate stage.

At the PPM rally, Premier Alden McLaughlin urged the people of the Sister Islands to vote for Moses Kirkconnell and O’Connor Connolly because he did not think anyone wanted to trade two ministers for two people that would almost certainly not be ministers in anyone’s government.

But McKeever pointed out that voting for McLaughlin’s government would not bring legalized weed, as he urged the people to vote for “Elvis Jeffery McKeever. the weed head that they are afraid of”.

God help us. I never thought I would see the day that my 14 year old child have more sense than you all adults. I’m moving out of Cayman Brac if you fools vote him in. No man who pulls down his pants and shows his ass and balls to everyone at a bar is representing me. I bet CNS won’t talk about that.

Yea go ahead…keep voting for people based on appearances. That’s why we are in the mess we are in now.

At least Elvis comes real. Obviously you did not listen to his forum in which he had more to say than just the legalization of ganja.

Much more to say than all 50 of them put together actually and he doesn’t even need a script. This more than can be said for some of the incumbents that can hardly string a sentence together.

And this right here folks is why we will never get ahead..So Julie can dress up in her fancy expensive green, purple, red to represent all the parties she has been in but a poor man like Elvis struggling to survive in her district is ridiculed because he is not wearing shoes..

Better to be someone real, genuine and not hypocritical like you or Julie.

It’s probably too late now but you should have listened to some of meetings. He might be a little rough around the edges but he speaks from the heart and has solutions other than paving Cayman Brac.

If he gets elected and makes half of that $200K that we pay Julie now he can buy all the shoes in the world.

Sometimes I also think Brackers have lost their minds..

Seriously him not wearing shoes is all you can come up with? school children in China have known for years that Elvis smokes weed and he is campaigning for it to be legalized. All over the world that is happening. Elvis is just bringing more attention to it.

Getting away from the shoes, just like you Julie always despised him for this very issue but just this weekend she is up there on the platform telling Cayman Brac and the PPM that she will support marijuana legalization. Now please tell me who should be called out, elvis for being honest or Julie for hypocrisy by trying to save her seat by trying to hijack Elvis’ marijuana platform..

CBE hasn’t lost their dam minds, but instead their minds have become more clear and aware of what has been going and what will continue to go on if Julie is re-elected.

Seems like changing her last name to be number 1 on the ballot paper isn’t working anymore so she is hijacking Elvis’ by jumping on the ganja campaign..

Come on now Julie, people can see now how desperate you are.

By the way CNS if she thinks bringing John John to Cayman Brac to help her win is going to work, she is sadly lost..He better had stay home and worry about losing his own district.

Never thought I would see the day Julie would support marijuana just to hijack Elvis’ lead over her. Talk about desperation to keep a seat. This speaks volumes about her integrity. I wonder what her church folk must be thinking about her now.. PPM seems awfully worried!

CBE please come out in record numbers tomorrow and vote for Elvis.

A few years ago she was jumping from party to party to get wherever she thought her best chance lay. She has paved private driveways to buy votes.

This band wagon jumping she is doing now shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who has a memory span of more than 4 years. Unfortunately, it appears a lot of people can’t seem to remember that far back, willfully flocking to any candidate with a silver tongue and empty promises.

How do we even have a PPM government now when independents won the majority 4 years ago? Because the staunchest enemies teamed up to give the island a big f*$k you when it was obvious most of us wanted change.

I hope the PPM get a rude awakening this election. They clearly think they have this in the bag and do not even attempt the forums. This island needs a shakedown and we are at an ideal place to put this in motion. Vote the empty promises and greedy paycheck collectors out this year.

I cannot say this emphatically enough, either vote them all out or sit back and watch the horse wrangling show and prepare your placard signs because it will be another four years of the Caymanian PEOPLE fighting and petitioning to get THEIR needs met.
Lest we forget. The next government whomever they shall be, will work for US. I shall leave you with a few words from a wise man. “You can fool some people sometimes, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.” “Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights.”
