Bryan offers support to Mac on ‘wealth of knowledge’

Cayman News Service

(CNS): Kenneth Bryan, who is campaigning to retain his George Town Central seat, has confirmed he is willing to work with anyone in government who is elected by voters, including McKeeva Bush. Bryan was asked on Rooster’s morning phone-in show on Monday whether he would work with Bush, who was recently convicted of a violent assault against a woman, and did not hesitate with his answer.

“Of course, of course, of course,” Bryan said. “Mr Bush, if he is elected, would be the choice of the people of West Bay West and we have to respect that. But not only that, he brings a wealth of knowledge. He is the… Father of the House and regardless of where he would be in an administration, he has a lot to be able to contribute,” he added.

Appearing alone on Cayman Crosstalk after Frank Cornwall, the PPM candidate for the district, decline to attend the candidate Q&A, Bryan said nothing at all about Bush’s conviction, the topical issue of violence against women or the message it sends having a man in high office with such a conviction.

Immediately after the questions about Bush, Bryan was asked why he believed there were just eleven women running among 50 candidates.

The GTC incumbent said Cayman society was “not as progressive” as other jurisdictions, and although things were changing rapidly, many people still feel they might “get abused emotionally” or their “opinions disregarded”. He said it was essential that “we have them in key posts”.

The question about who will and who will not support Bush in a formal position in the next government is an important one for many voters, even though everyone is well aware that he is very likely to retain his WBW seat. While a number of candidates have categorically stated they are not willing to be in any government that includes Bush in a formal position, others have hedged on the issue.

At the moment the PPM Alliance is seeking to distance itself from the partnership it had with Bush in the coalition Government of National Unity and has unveiled an alliance with four independents going into the campaign, which McLaughlin recently said was likely to grow.

While clearly hoping that the Progressive-led alliance will be able to form a government without having to depend on Bush, none of the candidates on the PPM platform have yet ruled out forming a new administration with Bush and whichever additional candidates he is able to bring to the table once the horse-trading begins post election day.

Notably, the PPM does not have a single candidate in any of the four West Bay seats and has not entered into an alliance with any of those currently challenging Bush and his allies.

McKeeva doesn’t so much have a wealth of knowledge, as a long list of previous.

If Kenneth thinks that can be useful, then I’m afraid Kenneth is an idiot or a villain, or both.

Wait a second, why are there so many PPM supporters tearing Kenneth down when the whole reason we are having an early election was because Alden did not want to condemn McKeeva and allowed him to remain as speaker despite his conviction..

Frank or Kenneth, neither has called out McKeeva for what he did to that poor woman and for the lies he spoke after blaming it on his late daughter and then turning around after he is convicted and saying that the lady beat him up and calling her names.

As far as I am concerned, McKeeva may have done a lot of things good and bad for Cayman but not calling him on the mat for all the bad things he did, from the using of the Government credit card for gambling, allegedly feeling up the woman in the casino and spending the night in Broward County jail and then in a drunken rage beats up a woman and calls her a lesbian.

What’ even worse, the women in power including the one for gender affairs Tara Rivers , Julianna and Barbara Connolly did not stand up against this bully and drunk and instead followed their leader and party line to protect their party. These women in my opinion are worse than the men because people like my mother fought some very strong men and won the ability for these women to hold the offices they now occupy. It is a slap in the face of all of the women that stood up to the men and demanded their place in the decision making of Cayman. As far as I am concerned not one of them should ever get elected again as they are no better than McKeeva when they sit, keep their mouths shut and do absolutely nothing. Shame Shame Shame on them!!!

Just like most of us. KB was young and dumb, didnt have children and wife etc when he did his foolishness. Everybody knows it and still he was voted in before. What is his point in saying he will work with Mackeeva? He did not endorse Mac and condone his behavior (which was just last year by the way NOT a decade or more ago as is Kenneth’s case). He simply said that he would work with whoever is there, well yah kinda have to no? and he is not wrong in saying that mackeeva (as disgusting as his is) has a wealth of knowledge. Anybody who knows Mackeeva knows he is one of the best politicians ever created and he has been apart of the government for three decades much to my chagrin…Mackeeva knows a lot.
