(Press release): Alric Lindsay, a Caymanian who has lived in George Town for over 40 years, will be running in the April General Elections for the George Town South constituency. “I believe that our future requires economic viability, diversity and sustainability. This includes exploring opportunities to create additional sources of revenue and working on ways to increase efficiency, transparency and accountability within the government.”

However, Lindsay added that “a vibrant economy must be supported by a top-class educational structure (traditional and vocational) which focuses on effectiveness on learning and consistently produces Caymanian talent and increases the employability of, and adequate pensionable opportunities for, our people”.

He believes that a good infrastructure must also include a highly rated healthcare system that is accessible by all and which provides good, affordable coverage.  “The health of our environment is also important. We must identify further areas that require protection, take measures to reduce waste and pollution, including the introduction of a proper recycling and waste to energy programme.”

Lindsay qualified as a certified public accountant in Atlanta, Georgia after attending Stetson University in Florida and passed the CPA exam in 1998. Subsequently, he qualified as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands in 2005. He is an accredited director with the Governance Institute and acts as a director to Cayman-based investment funds. He has passed the Canadian Securities Course focusing on mutual funds.

“Over the years, I have been grateful for the opportunities to work with others in the community, including the People for the Protection of Smith Barcadere (to keep the beach in its natural state), the Cayman Food Bank (collecting food for the less fortunate and establishing pantries for the storage of food), volunteering for Cruise Port Referendum Cayman (to protect our constitutional rights and environment, including reefs),  serving as a member of the Conditional Release (parole) Board and volunteer activities with the Meals on Wheels program.”

The candidate is also a past member of the Rotary Club of the Cayman Islands, during which time he acted as an advisor to high school students in the Junior Achievement programme, the board of directors of the National Housing Trust (providing affordable housing) and was briefly an attorney volunteer for the National Trust of the Cayman Islands, which is responsible for conservation and environmental matters. In his spare time, he plays squash and donates to lower income students in order for them to regularly participate in the national junior squash programme.

“I will continue to respectfully work with concerned citizens and other parties toward a plan for a sustainable Cayman where Caymanians thrive alongside others socially and economically,” he said. “I will support the vision of the people through programs aimed at education, arts and culture, transportation, employment, health and the environment, to ensure that we truly can have opportunities to prosper here in Cayman.”

As a candidate, how do you respond to the lack of water quality monitoring for locals, children, and visitors alike:

Meh? If I lived in GTS I would easily vote for him over the incumbent.

True, but I’m not thrilled about either of them.

You’re crazy. Barbara is way out of her league. This isnt even a competition. One tried to hand over Smith’s Cove to the cruise lines, the other helped win the fight and is still pushing for forensics for accountability.
