(CNS): The elections office has published the draft election register which will, once claims and objections have been dealt with, become the official voter list for the General Election in May. The latest draft stands at 23,648 potential voters some 1407 more than the current list and a growth of more than 6.6% on that list but more than 11% since 2017 or 2421 new voters.

The proposed register can be viewed at the elections website here and all of the changes here.

Once the claims and objections are all dealt with, the final list will be published on 1 April. But it is already clear that with 111 days to go before the big day on 26 May, the 2021 voter landscape will be very different from 2017, with 18 of the 19 constituencies having grown considerably since 2017.

Bodden Town East, the seat held by Dwayne Seymour and being contested by Osbourne Bodde, is still the largest constituency in the Cayman Islands having increased from 1,513 in 2017 to 1,662 on the draft list. This makes it three and a half times bigger than the smallest constituency of Cayman Brac East, the only seat to decline in size since 2017 to just 478 voters.

Some constituencies have seen significant growth since the last election, with West Bay South seeing the biggest increase, growing from 1,340 to 1,538, an increase of 198 new voters. The seat is currently held by Home Affairs Minister Tara Rivers, and while a number of challengers are expected to emerge, so far only Raul Nicholson-Coe has formally declared for the race.

George Town East, the seat currently held by Roy McTaggart, who is currently on track to be Cayman’s next premier if the coalition holds through the election, has also grown by 196 votes. So far McTaggart has no challengers.

Another seat seeing significant growth given its geographic size is North Side, the fourth smallest seat in the country, which has 120 more voters than in 2017, an increase of 17%, almost three times the nationwide average growth.

Details on how to make claims or objections and all other information about the election are available on the Elections Office website.
