McKeeva Bush delivers his pre-election message

(CNS Election): The leader of the opposition and the CDP has accused the government of broken promises, as he urged voters to elect a new government in a 20 minute national address on the eve of the elections. McKeeva Bush said the PPM were not able to address crime and indicated that a government led by him would seek much closer ties to the United States in the crime-fight. He also said a CDP government would renegotiate the deal with the UK over beneficial ownership, invest more in education and increase benefits for the elderly, among other promises.

In a direct bid to the country, Bush accused the Progressive government of mismanagement and of “wicked policies” that have forced people out of their homes, as he promised mortgage assistance from the public purse to people losing homes, as well as providing access to affordable housing.

Bush said some people were missing out on access to healthcare and said there was a crisis in the sector. Despite presiding over a change to the health insurance law during the 2009 to 2013, Bush said his government would change it again to improve the system with better healthcare at a better rate. He said the hospitals would be reorganised, though he did not explain how.

He also promised to increase elderly benefits to a $1,000 per month and a much more comprehensive social package to alleviate poverty, but he did not say how he planned to pay for the increased investment in social services.

Bush also said that a CDP government would examine the possibility of aqua farming in local waters, as he could not see any reason it could not be tried here as a way to diversify the economy, and said he would bring in foreign experts to work with locals.

The opposition leader commended his new team and claimed that his line-up of candidates were the best eleven people running in the election.

“We are ready to take on the challenges,” he said, promising to take care of everyone and bring prosperity as he claimed that the CDP had always been the party for the people.

Mr Bush, do you remember the mortgage assistance programme you did while you were in office? Most of the bad loans at commercial banks were moved to CIDB. Some loans granted to political followers who didn’t qualify. Most of those loans are now in foreclosure at CIDB and are going through the courts. So what are you going to do different this time around? You had your chance sir and it went sour.

Bush had TWENTY YEARS to addess ALL of the problems he is accusing the PPM of ignoring, but chose to end up in court for gambling out the country’s money and being stopped by the UK from signing a contract with CHEC on the new port. Now he wants to put a funnel down our throats so we won’t even have to swallow yet more gallons of his obnoxious koolaid. Vote with your eyes and ears open and your brains fully functioning tomorrow, Cayman.
