TV to broadcast six debates on national issues

| 11/04/2017

(CNS Elections): The local television station will be broadcasting a series of six live pre-election debates over the next five weeks that will see groups of selected candidates debate national issues. Hurely’s Media said the debates would be in the form of a Q&A and topics will include employment, education, development, environment and crime. They will be hosted by Tammi Sulliman, a former Cayman 27 news director who now works directly for the Dart Group.

The first programme airs next Tuesday on Cayman 27 and will feature three North Side candidates — incumbent MLA Ezzard Miller (Ind), Ed Chisholm (PPM) and Justin Ebanks (Ind) — and two East End candidates — Isaac Rankin (Ind) and incumbant MLA Arden McLean (Ind).

“As we embark on uncharted territory for the country with 19 single member constituencies, one vote for each person, we want to make sure we do our part to educate and inform the voter on issues on a macro-level,” officials from Hurley’s said in a release about the TV debates.

Building on the Chamber of Commerce candidate forums, which are also being televised from each of the districts, the TV owners said they want these debates to look at the national issues.

Alongside Sulliman, who will moderate the debates, political analysts Ben Meade and Johann Moxam will offer post-debate commentary.

The debate begins at 7pm on Tuesday 18 April at the Arts and Recreation Centre in Camana Bay and the debates are open to the public. Further details of the rest of the debates will be released later.

I can’t wait to see JJJ he is such a joke. He hasn’t been able to string two sentences together that make sense. It will be the best local stand up comedy show ever!
