Denniston Tibbetts

(CNS): Sibling rivalry will be pushed to a new level during this election campaign after Denniston Tibbetts was confirmed as the Cayman Democratic Party’s candidate for Red Bay at the weekend. The brother of Kurt Tibbetts, the former leader of government business, will be standing on the platform with McKeeva Bush. Kurt Tibbetts, the current planning minister, has said he is retiring and standing aside this election but he is very likely to still campaign for the People’s Progressive Movement, the party which he was instrumental in forming following the infamous 2001 coup.

Denniston Tibbetts, a first time candidate, is aligned with nine other CDP candidates who were selected at a private party meeting Saturday, including former minister Mike Adam, who has now confirmed he will be running in George Town South.

The CDP candidates running on the four West Bay districts are: McKeeva Bush (WBW), Bernie Bush (WBN), Capt Eugene Ebanks (WBC) and John Jefferson Jr (WBS).

The party has just two candidates in Bodden Town: Robert Bodden (BTE) and Stafford Berry (BTW). However, McKeeva Bush has said that he will support some independents in the those districts where the CDP are not fielding candidates.

Bush has given tacit support to incumbent MLA Alva Suckoo, who is running in Newlands as an independent. In the 2013 elections he ran with the PPM but crossed the floor over his opposition to gay rights of any kind. However, before he was with the PPM, he was a founding member of the UDP.

Bush has also said that the CDP will not contest the Savannah seat but will back veteran Anthony Eden, who has not yet said if he intends to seek re-election for what would be his 7th term.

In the capital, as well as Adam in GTS and Tibbetts in Red Bay, CDP Chair Tessa Bodden is running for GTN, and Jonathan Piercy will be making his third attempt to get a seat in the LA, running in George Town West. Bush will not field a CDP candidate in GTC (where the premier is still expected to run) but has stated previously that he will be backing former PPM member Kenneth Bryan in the David and Goliath political fight in that district.

It is not clear which independent candidate Bush will back in Prospect or whether he will be supporting Kendrick Webster in GTE, the only person so far to confirm that he is contesting that seat. The CDP will not contest either of the two seats in the Sister Islands or challenge the incumbents in East End or North Side.

The CDP is running just enough candidates to form a government if every one of them manages to win their seat, otherwise Bush will be dependent on independents to win control of the LA and to take back the top job as premier.

Caymanians there is not men kind that can help these Islands unless they are men of God and their priorities are what its in God word and the reveals of his Holy Spirit . He is everlasting and he will continue to do so generation by generation. Cayman its time to give back to God what is for God which its everything, he creates the earth and everything that is on it for you , for me , for our children and the generations to come. I declare that the Cayman Islands belong to Jesus!!!

    2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

    Daniel 7:14
And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

Denniston Tibbetts, is a CDP candidate.
Could this be Kurt’s revenge against Mac for his rhetoric and lambasting the PPM over the last few years?

“the PPM Government never did anything for me” does not sound like a diplomatic or unselfish way to start of the announcement that one is seeking a seat in Parliament.
Lots of lessons to learn here.

Speaks very well of Kurt and the PPM that his brother got no favors. What benefits have Bush and the CDP promised?

As a GTS voter what is Adams proposal? At the moment he is the best candidate running.

I’m aware that he wants to change/improve the maintenance law to strengthen the teeth and force deadbeats to pay child support. Anything else? Sidewalks/bicycle lanes for south sound?

If Mike Adam wants to run for office again with that same bunch of blackguards as that last national nightmare of maladministration, then he should damn well be doing it in Bosun Bay where he lives. The UDP/CDP and/or any other amalgamation of rebranding efforts and spin doctoring hooey in order to run away from their well deservedly tarnished images and/or illusions of anything that has anything to do with democracy will not now nor will they ever get a vote from me. A one legged donkey would offer a better option than any and/or all of them (including the peripheral charlatans popping out of the woodwork like so many termites) put together.

The discomforting, fashion-backward “Abe” chin curtain beard style telegraphs a certain “devil-may-care” zeal we have seen plenty of already. Political allegiance confirms it.

The OMOV was executed entirely upside down. This current system is bullshit. All that needed to happen was for the extra “wotes” to vanish. Then the top ones win. I repeat, this new system is totally unintelligent, backwards and open to abuse.

In a normal place, support, tacit or otherwise from someone like Mac would be the kiss of death..

Mr. Denniston’s comment to the Compass reported shows what is wrong with too many CDP candidates and way too many constituents. That is, “PPM never did anything for ME”. It’s all about ME. Some ‘independents’ also far into this category.
I am a PPM supporter and they never did anything for me personally either. I never asked either. But they did turn the economy around so I got to keep the job I earned myself because the company I work for continues. They did reduce the cost-of-living so I get to retain more of my income. Etc. Etc.
So in reality they appear to have done quite a bit for US.

    • Caymanian says:

That I can agree with. My only desire is to see them focus more on lowering the cost of living which to me they did actually very little on. Their focus was on turning the economy around which they did. I note they were a good part of why we ended up there also but they did do a good job.

      • Anonymous says:

Government can only do so much to lower the cost of living. E.G. – reduced the fuel duties to reduce costs to everyone; reduce fees charged. Then it is up to the private sector to reflect these in the costs for goods & services and up to the consumers to reward those businesses that do this, until the others realize they are losing much business.
But if the PPM regain control of government I feel sure they will continue to make these efforts.

Anonymous 12:24 p.m. I agree with you 100%. I would never ever support a candidate that promised to do something for me, me, me. If this comment doesn’t keep him out of the Legislative Assembly, then God help us, nothing else will. I too remember the day that he called the radio talk show and made the comment about Mario being an intelligent man. Between the ‘me’ comment and ‘intelligent man’ comment, it raises no doubt in my mind whatsoever that he needs to stay in construction where from what I have been told he has also failed. But then again he is a perfect match for the Cayman Democratic Party.

Well said and spot on. The old corrupt ways of doing business are well ingrained in these old boys. They don’t understand the benefits of good governance and the destruction caused by corruption. They really don’t know any better.

    • Anonymous says:

I totally agree. why is it that people think that a politician’s job is to do something personal for them? the politician’s role is to create the environment that enables each of us to do what we can. it is not about handouts, freebies and personal favours!

Good to see Captain Eugene come out of hiding every 4 years. lmao Wtf has he ever done to even be worthy of an MLA seat?!? What a joke the election has become over the years. I will stay home election day and sip my tea as my only options are Matthew Leslie, Austin Harris and Lucille.

Anonymous…If you stay home and don’t go out and vote for the less of the evils the very people you don’t want to get elected will WIN for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #PleaseVote

On the radio I once heard him call in and say “Mario is an intelligent man”, which raises substantial doubts in my mind about his judgment.
