‘Fiery’ campaign launch for WBS candidate
(CNS Elections): A full back page advertisement in the local print media started one West Bay candidate’s campaign launch on a hot note. An unfortunate double-typo on the advert which suggested “Burn Rankin” was running for West Bay South was probably not the sort of fiery start the candidate was hoping for. Burns Rankin, however, is running as an independent candidate for the district.
There are already a number of candidates that have said they are running in WBS: John Jefferson on the CDP ticket; Minister Tara Rivers, who hasn’t joined the PPM but is likely to be allied with them; and Laura Young, another independent. The district has 1,358 voters and stretches from Batabano Road to the Ritz-Carlton.
Rankin says very little in the advertisement about his credentials or his political positions, other than his claim to being a local man born and raised in the constituency and wanting to put Caymanians first again.
A campaign flyer appeared on other people’s Facebook pages this week but it added little information about the candidate, who does not appear to have a social media presence or a website, nor does he appear to be well-known. CNS has made efforts to contact Rankin but we have been unable to find any contact details or information about him other than the fact he had a valid trade and business licence in 2015/16 for Rankin’s Electrical Services in West Bay.

Burn dem! Wait, Peter wait, I see another candidate at the gate…
Not a good start to not even proof your advert. It doesn’t say anything anyway so by a mere glance he should have see the typo
Obviously you never proof read your comment either.
Lol! He should stick with Burn! Very memorable. Feel the Burn!
Or feel the Burns!
Make the salary 20,000 a year and hardly any of these losers -failed civil servants and private sector no hopers-would try to be MLAs.
Well, if this guy had spent more time telling us who he really is rather than having a fancy pseudo American logo designed to present a totally disconnected image.
Just get out there. Put up a 3 page website.
Publish your email and phone number. Tell us about you. Tell us why you are different. Engage the people.
Politicians feed off dumb people. Just ask Alden & McKeeva.
The best thing Cayman can do is to elect a bunch of nobodies so that they can argue useless points and go on the odd jolly.
Let the rest of us business people keep the economy going and leave us the f**k alone.
Love your post!!!
Cheers! I appreciate that. All the best.
Tru Dat!
and create dumb laws that screws us all? Aaah no. We need intelligent people who can take us into the future. We need alternative energy. New ways to generate money. Our TRUE unemployed back to work. Better education system. Can go on and on. We have no time for nobodies and arguing useless points.
Did he proof read the ad? If he did and didn’t pick up on an incorrect spelling of his own name he should not be elected. Likewise if he didn’t proof read it, he is too lazy to be elected. Certainly seems to be too lazy to tell us what he stands for…
You’re right. Designers usually get your final approval before releasing it for print. This disconnect needs to be corrected in the next go.
Eeeeesh. Still waiting for a candidate we can vote for.
Clever way to call attention to oneself.
Oh dear.
It is shaping up to be an awesome election season in the Cayman Islands.
