(CNS): Police, fire and the EMS crews responded to a 911 call around 7:00pm Friday after a house in Look Out Gardens, Bodden Town, exploded, injuring a 52-year-old woman, who has been treated in hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The home sustained significant structural damage, and fire investigators have begun the work to determine the cause of the explosion.

The RCIPS and CIFS said members of the public should exercise caution around damaged or compromised structures and immediately call 911 if they notice any signs of gas leaks, electrical hazards, or unusual smells.

“If you suspect a safety risk in your home, do not attempt to investigate or repair it yourself. Contact the appropriate emergency services for assistance,” officials warned.

Perhaps with some vision after several of these such accidents we could adapt UK regulations that dont allow for propane or natural gas use in multi family housing.

what choice do we have? Overpriced electricity or reasonable propane. How do you want to cook? Do we even know that the source was the propane?

Gas is almost a necessity in the Caribbean. If you’d lived through any tropical storms or hurricanes you’d know that. If the power goes out due to to power line damage and if you have an electric hob you are screwed. Gas hobs allowed many after hurricane Ivan to cook and more importantly – boil water.

???…basing this on a 50 year storm event????
many gas stoves/appliances today still need electricity to operate

My top burner stove does not require power to be on to light ‘er up: matches!
The oven will not light without power to the igniter bar. That’s where my propane grill comes into play in an emergency.
If the gas stove was not there at all, my grill will do very nicely.
