Police: No foul play in disappearance of reporter

(CNS): Police investigating the disappearance of local reporter Andrel Harris, who seems to have died at sea off the coast of Pedro Castle, have said there is no evidence that he was the victim of foul play. Harris was reported missing on 4 June. During the intensive search for him involving multiple agencies and the public, which lasted more than a week, various items linked to him were found in the sea.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday about a number of high-profile investigations, Police Commissioner Kurt Walton said the police had found no evidence to suggest that a third party was involved in Harris’s disappearance. At the same press briefing, Walton also spoke about the death of Judiann Myles, another mysterious case where the RCIPS has ruled out foul play.

In regard to the Harris case, senior police officers refused to say why they had concluded that no one else was involved in his disappearance. However, as a result of that conclusion, the police are not looking for a suspect, though Walton said it remains an active investigation.

No body has been found, so it is a missing person case, which means that it might not be examined by the Coroners Court for years, leaving the public in the dark about the fate of the much-loved local reporter.

The commissioner said he was unable to provide the answers to the public because of the sensitivity of the investigations, but he was aware of the expectations and the public interest. He confirmed what is already in the public domain, that Harris was seen walking alone along Pedro Castle Road towards the historic monument.

He said clothes and other personal items, which had been shown to Harris’s family, had been found in the sea below Pedro Castle. This and “other evidence” and layers of investigation, which he did not explain, had led to the conclusion that there was no foul play.

“It is a difficult investigation,” Walton said, explaining that the police must keep an open mind, as it remains an open case. But he said the evidence so far points away from any third-party involvement. “I have to expect there is an expectation… and it is difficult [that] I can’t give details on the evidence.”

He said the investigation had become focused on Pedro Castle because all the evidence led them to that point.

Despite persistent questioning from the press, including this media house, the Compass, where Harris worked, and his former colleague at Radio Cayman, the police refused to answer most of the questions about the Harris or the Myles cases, or explain why the police have found no reason to believe there was criminality in either case.

    Occam’s razor time.

With Andrel, it’s very likely he took his own life. People watch too much Netflix now, and seem to believe their sofa detective skills are a) wanted, and b) accurate.

I know/knew Andrel, I truly hope the family get some closure.

As for the Myles case, it seems a complex one. Hopefully time will shed light on what happened. However, as long as RCIPS keep the close family informed, it’s really not something that the wider community needs to be kept in the loop with, what with many people in the community being lacking in sense.

Does anyone ever consider the possibility that “RCIPS isn’t keeping the family informed” may arise from family members not having been eliminated as potentially having been involved in some way? Like, oh, a high proportion of murders of women?

I never met Andrel but such a nice young man from all appearances. It was a pleasure to watch him grow in his chosen field, to watch him mature and grow in confidence. It’s all very, very sad. His family must have been very proud of him. My condolences to his family and friends.

No evidence as to who took the coke out of the police evidence locker. No evidence as to what happened to Anna Evans. No evidence if Jon Jon was over the limit – or not – when he hit the power pole, or when he hit the JCB. Initially claimed Alissady Powells death was unexplained as there was no evidence as to foul play, only to change that to murder when an independent pathogist said she was strangled or smothered and it was made public ( but not by RCIPS). Now claim that there is no evidence as to foul play in the case of Andrel Harris or Judiann Myles, but refuse to release any of the details that they say led them to that conclusion. And we are meant to believe them.

Clearly bullshit. The correct answer is that we simply do not know if there was or was not foul play. It is negligent to say otherwise. Same with the CIMA lady.

From experience, the Detectives here are rubbish, the firearm guy sets people up and is on the take…obviously not able to say his name or his cohorts names..but he and his colleagues and cohorts know.

The truth will always come out!

Thumb down all you want, you were obviously there, did you know before, did you know…?

Did you admit to colleagues and cohorts the after..? Did you tell them what you did after?

Did you tell them how I know you…even your black uniform, with your face covered and your armoury in your hand?

Stick your thumb down your own you know where!

      you say this based on?

Look, I wish there was some great conspiracy theory, that my friend was still alive. But the sad truth is, those of us that knew him, that were close to him, that spoke to him, while we were shocked, horrified and distraught, we were not surprised.

We knew from the get go, when we went out to walk those cliffs in the following days what we were looking for.

I wish we so very much there was more, In the nights following it I begged, I pleaded, I cursed every being imaginable but I had to arrive at acceptance of the reality My friend was gone. Andrel was many things most good and a few bad but one thing he always was, was meticulous and planning. There were signs he wasn’t well I missed them. Looking back now its all so obvious and I will carry it with me the rest of my life. The reality is that Andrel knew what he was going to do, he knew how he was going to do it and took the steps according too his plan, part of that was, he didn’t want to be found, and he made sure of it. If he had wished for any other outcome he would have ensured it.

My brother, I’m sorry I wasn’t there when it mattered, I’m sorry I didn’t see it, I’m sorry I was too busy, too selfish or just to afraid to confront the reality of what was going on.

Can the public ask who specifically is ordering our police to dismiss these unusual and presumed demise cases? Is their insistence that these be dropped not suspicious? How are these two any different from all the other warehouses of cold cases?

might just be me. but you’d think there has to be some correlation with this poor man going missing and the head of CIMAs AMl division being found burnt in a car…

“Surely you know that people do bot take their own life sonetimes.” what? lol are you ok?

honey, are you trying to say that people never take their own lives?

anywaysssssss. whether you see it as ‘disrespect’ or not, someone taking their own life a fair hypothetical to throw into the possibilities. It would be absolutely unrealistic to say the only option is foul play. only a fool would say that.

SURELY you know that the rcips, everyone that helped search, everyone that read about this story, everyone that knows the history of accidents and occurrences of pedro has inevitably thought about possibility of su*cid* its a natural thought and since no one knows the actual answer right now… i say again, whether YOU see it as disrespect or not, its a fair thought or question to have.

Pedro currents are nothing to play about regardless of if it was malicious, purposeful, self inflicted or foul play soooooo
