Man admits having Glock.45 and loaded magazines
(CNS): Tomy Daniel Martinez Gomez (30) has pleaded guilty to the possession of an unlicensed firearm. Police officers found the gun during a vehicle stop and search on 1 March in George Town along Eastern Avenue, outside Bananas Bar, an increasingly notorious hot spot for violence and gun crime. Gomez appeared in Grand Court last Friday and, with the help of a translator, admitted having a Glock.45 pistol and two magazines containing 17 rounds of ammunition.
Gomez, who is scheduled to appear for sentencing next month, is facing a mandatory minimum of ten years in jail. However, his defence attorney told the court that he plans to make an argument of ‘exceptional circumstances’ in the case, though he did not reveal the basis on which that submission would be made. If successful, his jail time could be considerably less.

Cayman needs a massive immigration enforcement operation similar to that of America right now. Get this mess under control now.
Revoke Bananas Bar’s license, and if the baby gangstas drift over to another bar, revoke its too. And so on until everyone gets the message, particularly the bar owners plying them with liquor and providing premises to deal in God knows what else.
Glock 45 is not .45 – its 9mm.
Says the gun enthusiast baby.
What Caymanian holds the work permit, why aren’t they also arrested, and facing trial?
There is no prerequisite of being Caymanian in order to take out a permit. Anyone can take out a nanny/gardener/etc permit. But you knew that, and just wanted to poorly throw shade on Caymanians.
Because that would be stupid.
So, should parents be responsible for any crimes their child commits during the lifetime of said child, including adult years? That’s how stupid you sound.
Actually, Cayman’s Immigration Law holds people responsible for the conduct of their dependents – so not a great stretch to start holding employers liable for any scum they import. Perhaps people would be more careful in choosing who they bring to live amongst us.
Your adult child is not your dependent.
(Except under particular circumstances not germane to the conversation.)
Not even remotely close to the same thing, and the permit holders absolutely need to be looked at as well if they are bringing non-English-speaking, gun-wielding criminals into our islands.
They are mostly ALL locals who feel they need a gun unfortunately for you all.
Those damn Caymanians at it again 🙃
Tony Daniel Martinez Gomez a Caymanian? Lol
(Please note the sarcastic smiley)
It was sarcasm.
Sarcasm not your strong point.
Throw the book at him! Got to set an example for these clowns…
CNS, was there any mention of deportation?
Why is he here on island and cannot speak or understand English? How did this one get through WORC? Why if he is guilty he has to be locked up in Cayman? Send him back to his country and pay the cost to keep him there. Certainly would be cheaper for the cayman tax people and harder on him.
Being able to speak conversational English, and being certain that someone understands what is going on in a legal proceeding involving important rights, are two different things.
No one said he “cannot speak or understand English”. But when you arrest someone and have them appear in court, then you do not leave open the possibility of a later appeal on the ground that they did not understand the appropriate legal terminology.
…what exceptional circumstances? … no excuse of any sort should be accpeted.
For once, I am applauding the RCIPS for doing their job to keep Cayman safe. Do not want to think what could have happened if the gun and magazine were not discovered.
Lock him up for the said time on our law books. Then deport his gangster a** back to whatever ‘Sh*tH*** country’ from which he came.
No pity for such a person.
He was up to no good then and more than likley he will be again in the future. Deport him after he serves his time.
Can’t even speak English?!? How and when was he admitted here, and to do what? Perhaps Franz Manderson could help us understand…
Franz Manderson. the one that said all civil service workers are working hard and doing a good job. It has never been that way in any company or Givernment anywhere in the world that everyone does a good job working and hard.

How and why was Gomez in Cayman – and how would he have a work permit of he did not speak English?
I cannot wait to hear the excuse for having it. I guarantee it’ll be ridiculous.
boys compensating for their minuscule assets carry guns
Actually just in fear of their lives. NEXT!
You know alot…why was he in fear of his life, translator, why he no go home…
We can’t wait to hear about how he needs the illegal loaded gun and magazines to do his non-English speaking job in the Cayman Islands. Who holds the permit?
For whosoever is wonderING And keep asking all the questions!!
1- Grand Court provide you without asking you if you need or not a translator.
2- him married to a caymanian lady.
3- not sure of his level of English.
