Cops chase car with no plates from GT to Barkers
(CNS): Police on patrol on Shedden Road in George Town at about 8:15am on Wednesday, 11 June, were involved in a high-speed chase all the way to Barkers. The pursuit occurred after they attempted to stop a car with no licence plates, and the occupants behaved suspiciously. Officers used emergency lights and sirens, but the car did not stop, and the police gave chase.
Continuing to signal for the vehicle to stop while monitoring to ensure that members of the public remained safe, the officers followed it along the West Bay Road at high speed, according to footage posted on social media, as drivers heading into work looked on.
The suspects drove into the West Bay District. As they did, the police officers saw them throw items from the vehicle while it drove on into the Barkers area of West Bay, where it eventually came to a stop. Three men got out of the car and ran off. Two of them were apprehended by the officers who chased after them, but one man got away.
The police returned to the area where they had seen the men throw things from the moving car, but nothing was found. The police searched the car and found an undisclosed quantity of ganja and drug paraphernalia.
The two men who were apprehended, one aged 23 from George Town and the second aged 39 from Bodden Town, were arrested for drug-related offences but have since been bailed pending further investigation by the police.
