Hew: PPM on ‘greater journey’ to progress

Opposition Leader Joey Hew thanks supporters

(CNS): The opposition leader has once again lamented the outcome of last month’s election, stressing in a video message to voters that the final outcome was not what the PPM had hoped for, having secured seven seats, the most of any single party. Joey Hew said he was proud to have earned the support of thousands of Caymanians, as he thanked them and the party faithful. He said the PPM’s work wasn’t about one election but a journey towards progress.

“Once again, the government has been formed through post-election negotiations rather than a clear, unified mandate,” Hew said in the message. “While this may bring frustration to some, it also reminds us of the importance of continued civic engagement, open dialogue, and accountability. Our work is not confined to one election; it is part of a greater journey toward lasting progress.”

He congratulated the new coalition government, which collectively secured almost double the national votes cast than the Progressives.

“We trust that you will lead with integrity, transparency, and a deep commitment to the well-being of every Caymanian. Though we may differ in views, we are united by our love for this country and our shared duty to serve it well,” he said.

“As members of the PPM, whether in parliament or continuing our efforts in the community, we remain committed to the principles that brought us here: opportunity, equity, sustainability, and good governance. We will continue to be your advocates, your voices, and your partners in building a stronger Cayman Islands,” Hew added.

Despite leading the party to defeat, Hew appears to be continuing on as party leader for the time being. However, there are now others in the PPM who may yet be looking for ways to reshape the party after back-to-back elections where the party secured seven seats but was unable to form a majority government.

He’s becoming ridiculous. The man should just go on a great long journey of his own, hopefully far away from the political scene in Cayman. Am sure his cireba and developer buddies will find a nice consultancy position for him. Take the donkey with you too.

For as long as there are elections in the Cayman Islands, until ‘Christ Returns’, the PPM Party whomever they may be should never ever govern these three islands again. Power, Greed, Control, and Self Interest is all that party has ever been and will ever be.

NO NO.NO NO. So Hew and the rest of your members work for the betterment of All caymanians for the next 4 years as you are going to be paid a salary way above unna pay grade for the little work you all actually do.

Mr. Hew, those who grew up with political party mentality might think “hey! PPM got seven seats”; but Caymanians had national vote up to 2017 and the quality of candidates was much better. If you can please stop thinking in terms of parties for a minute, the PPM got 28.03% of the overall vote. It means nearly 70% (assuming the difference were spoilt ballots) chose something other than PPM. Having said that, in my humble opinion, the single member constituency system has got to go. It does not work for our islands.

The PPM’s journey to the curb was completed some time ago. How disrespectful that Joey (like Roy) still won’t accept lawful voter rejection, and their own failure to assemble some kind of coalition. Clueless.

That looks like a hostage video, he doesn’t look very well. Probably being advised to continue this nonsense. He should step away, he’s many times had the chance but cannot actually form a gov, and the desperate blunder of bringing back into PPM the ken/ju/dwayne shows his real self. Move on Joey, good leaders can read the room. Maybe you’re illiterate?

It was Miller and McLean who came up with the bright idea of OMOV. McKeeva immediately said “foolishness!” Alden figured the PPM would benefit, and pushed for the referendum. According to another media source, nearly 43 per cent of the Cayman Islands voting public at the time or 6,484 people stayed home rather than cast their ballot in that 2012 referendum. That’s right. We did not want it, but the PPM read the numbers their way (kinda like Joey is doing now). Well, the mistake is biting them now. #BringBackNationalVote

    1. CINP and TCCP masqueraded as two parties but in reality they had a plan to work together. They met prior to the election and made their plans, but let the “secret” loose that they argued over who would be Premier and parted ways. We now know that was a lie/deception.

    2. CINP ran a team B made up of independents just in case they needed the numbers. They had Raul, Jay, Sterling and Phillip. Arden was engaged to take care of them but Sterling flew the coop before Election Day.

    3. They then started the noise about the deficit and blamed it on the PPM. The public being gullible with their brains softened by years of listening to Marl Road trash sucked it up. Another deception because we now see the truth about the deficit.

    4. On election night after the dust settled CINP and TCCP were able to quickly come together in the best interests of the country…right!! This was just the plan all along. Andre and Peanut (smh at the name) DP Peanut..knew their roles all along.

This government was born in deception, they took advantage of confusion created by their Marl Road propaganda machine and took power.

For those of you who feel so proud of what they achieved.. never forget your reap what you sow. #deception!

Ps. The side deal with Rolly was also preconceived and part of the plan.

Well done Cayman. Experiment No. 2 … loading

Joey, the following is public information. Government could not hide it even if someone wanted to. As opposition leader, you are at C1 in the government pay scale. It is not petty cash. Please, please: do the job you are paid to do. Organize focus groups, do anonymous surveys, whatever you and the rest of your PPM posse need to do, to pinpoint why you lost. Learn from the mistake. You have four years to try again; but for God sake, stop harping on it. We want change. We want initiatives that put Caymanians first. If you are unable to get on board with that, then retire. That is the best advice we can give you (and it’s free)

MR. jOSEPH HEW, with all the respect in the world, PRAY TELL when was the last time that PPM WON THE GOVERNMENT WITH A MAJORITY OF PPM CARD CARRYING MEMBERS. It would appear that losing elections sets off some sort of memory block in ona head. Please stop it, ona just making ona self look idjutic with the same ole story. find common ground with the people, not the developers, work on a positive program for building people relationships along with ideas for carrying this country forward along with the incumbent government.CRITIQUE where and when necessary but work with others for the overall good.

Finally learn from your lessons and strive for unity not just within your party but in our small sphere called Cayman Islands, let that be an integral part of your leadership legacy.

Bring back #NATIONALVOTE. We are too small for this party system manure. All it does is foster corruption (like the 8M CB workers’ lodging that is built on Juju’s land). We need quality candidates! OMOV does not support such. In some constituencies, voters are forced to choose the least harmful from amongst the most mediocre. You won seven seats, but you only got 5,000 votes out of the total number of votes cast. Please accept that reality. Stop whining, and please do not be rehashing this over and over when you go to parliament. It is not what we pay the opposition to do.

This guy understands that if his party was in power it would only have been through post-election negotiations right?

If Jay and Issac had joined him, this wouldn’t be an issue. But because he’s on the side that lost it’s a problem.

He also has no issue with pre-election negotiations in the form of bringing Juju, Kenny, and DumDum on board. Did any of the party’s pre-existing supporters want those three clowns in the circus???

Spot on. Joey’s epic fail in leading the PPM through this election cycle is probably being called into question by the party membership (as it should).

Unless the PPM takes a serious look at who they are and the direction they are heading, they may well not be around for the 2029 election cycle.

Time for a complete revamp of the PPM or just die a natural death already.

The one dangerous thing about this past election is that it once again proved independents hold the weight unless a party can get a clean sweep. Mckeeva used to use this as a major advantage to get what he wanted and it now seems Jay and Issac have adopted this tactic.

Had PPM not run a candidate again Jay in NS, it is very likely he would have joined them rather than the coalition government. The rumours of their supposed demands at the meeting in Cayman Kai definitely hold weight, even though they didn’t get everything that they asked for.
