CIG launches test site during revamp of gov.ky
(CNS): The Cayman Islands Government is beta testing a new GOV.KY platform, which is part of an effort to modernise how the CIG communicates and delivers services online for a consistent and improved experience with better navigation, improved search function and content tailored to the needs of the audience.
Officials said the transformation is focused on building a scalable, forward-looking platform that can grow with the needs of the public and civil service. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the new site to preview it and provide feedback.
“This is more than a technical upgrade; it is a chance to improve how people access trusted information, connect with public services, and engage with government priorities,” said Communications Director Oneisha Richards.
“The next few months will focus on laying the groundwork for the future as we continue the search for the optimal, best-in-class solution for CIG. We are taking a thoughtful, phased approach prioritising stability, accessibility and usability while inviting our stakeholders and the public to play an active role in shaping what comes next,” she added.
Prompted by the end-of-life for the current content management system, this replatforming project is aimed at strengthening the foundation of the CIG’s digital presence. It currently includes a limited number of pages focused on the recent transition of government, such as the Office of the Premier page.
An updated Cabinet page and organisational chart, as well as new ministerial landing pages, will be introduced in the coming days to help the public get to know the new administration, understand its priorities and follow the work of ministries and portfolios over the next four years.
Visitors will notice incremental changes to the site’s structure and layout. This phase lays the foundation for a consistent and improved experience across the broader GOV.KY web ecosystem — with better navigation, improved search functionality, and the ability for government entities to deliver content tailored to the needs of their audiences.
To ensure continuity of service, GOV.KY 2.0 will continue to be maintained on the current Oracle Content Management System throughout 2025 while content and functionality are progressively transitioned to the new platform. In 2026, the focus will shift to enhancing features, with additional capabilities rolled out in phases to further improve usability and accessibility.
Officials said the development of the new platform supports the vision for a world-class digital experience, to ensure long-term sustainability and improved service delivery.

It’s gone from terrible to reasonable, so there’s plenty of room for improvement still.
I use some of it for DVDL related things, and it’s better than waiting in a line that moves in mysterious ways, only to be served by someone like the receptionist from Monsters Inc.
This was supposed be technologically revolutionary. Several of former redundant telecoms’ guys were hired at top dollar. They attended several conferences and countries including Estonia. By now we should be much further digitally advanced.
Have we gotten value for money?
This is a reasonable question to ask, especially given the enormous invetment.
While they’re at it, can they please replace CIMA’s REEFS portal and DITC’s portal with something that isn’t outdated and overly difficult to use?
5:58. You represent all that is wrong in Cayman. We ask for change, we ask for innovation. When it is offered we are critical without any facts. Shame on you.
Are they going to get rid of the hundreds of broken links?
No
As I read the article, 40% indicate indifference (blue). We can renew our driver license online, request meds refills by WhattsApp for collection the next day. Check in online for our KX flight, apply for a police record and get it by e-mail in 24 hours, watch or read parliament proceedings comfortably at home — and a myriad other services obtained quickly and conveniently; yet the civil and public service are bashed constantly, or their work taken for granted or minimized. First-world service, unappreciated by third-world clients. SMH.
All of which should be the work of 1-2 competent individuals, not a whole department holed up in Class A Camana Bay office space, hiring consultants to do the work for them. Try to keep up.
You can get a Police Record in 24 Hours – sure. But how accurate will it be? Will it disclose all the information you need to disclose to get a US visa? To apply to become a member of a profession? To be able to work with children? Will it mention your serious convictions in other countries – even where the RCIP knows about them? That is a big problem with Cayman. Looking good, and being good, are too different things. Does look good though.
The 11:43 am poster has a mistaken impression of what a police record is or what it actually records. Better to say nothing rather than criticize what you don’t understand.
A police record is used to satisfy a third party of the character of the subject. It is intended to be an accurate reflection of the subject’s criminality. All criminal background is required to be disclosed for certain purposes. Limited criminal background is required for most. The Cayman system appears to only provide the latter.
A police record discloses everything the RCIPS knows and has recorded — hence the name “record” — in the Cayman Islands. If you want to know about the person’s record in EVERY nation of the world — nearly 200 — then you will need to personally contact Interpol and quite possibly pay a special investigator.
Why would a Police Record from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service mention convictions in other countries?
I’ve said this for years. I’ve never had a bad experience with CIG or its offshoots that i haven’t had anywhere else and it’s been better than most of them.
Imagine Canadians and Americans moaning about the state of online banking for example? imagine Brits moaning about getting a doctors appointment the SAME HOUR but it’s via WhatsApp.
There’s a lot to complain about, many of those complaints very, very serious (leaking of personal medical data)
Only place in the world where making a website is considered an achievement
6:25 pm You must be so glad you don’t live among us.

Come see how much this world class nonsense cost now.
Do you need a Snickers? You’re not yourself when you’re hangry.
Move on or stay in the 1800s!
World-class service, wasted on grumpy third-world clients who do not appreciate it.
