Vandals take aim at anti-littering road-side signs
(CNS): The tourism ministry said that four signs erected along the West Bay Road to promote an anti-littering campaign have been vandalised. Officials condemned the “criminal destruction of public signage” and warned the vandals that anyone caught engaging in such illegal activity will face the fullest extent of the law. These signs were erected by the Beautification Task Force during the ministry-led campaign.
According to a press release, the signs are meant to remind both residents and visitors of the importance of keeping our beaches and green spaces clean and beautiful for all to enjoy. Their destruction serves no logical purpose and is an act of senseless damage to public property, the ministry stated. Under the Penal Code, anyone who willfully and unlawfully destroys, damages, or defaces property belonging to another commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine or imprisonment.
“The Ministry of Tourism and the Beautification Task Force will not stand by while public property is
intentionally destroyed,” said Tourism Minister Kenneth Bryan. “It’s very disheartening to know that
someone has intentionally destroyed signs that are meant to be a reminder of what is expected from
everyone who uses our public spaces.”
Anyone with information regarding this vandalism is asked to report it to the RCIPS anonymous tip hotline at 949-7777. Officials said public cooperation is essential in helping to maintain the integrity and cleanliness of our islands.

I don’t condone this behaviour at all but I wonder where the politicians or Police were to support families who had their loved ones memorial signs defaced approximately a year ago? These acts took place across multiple districts from George Town, Savannah, North Side to East End. Complaints were filed with the RCIPS and there was none to very little investigation done as it seemed to have not been an important enough issue.
If acts like these are not nipped in the bud, it is only a matter of time before they grow and become commonplace.
I personally believe that it is from the execution of these types of minor crimes and whereby perpetrators are unidentified, they develop and ‘graduate’ into career criminals.
A more willing police force to do proper investigations and more CCTV in public places are a must.
These acts are wrong no matter who the signs are for. This is unacceptable behavior and I hope the culprits are caught!
One more sign needed. “ Beware of excavators lurking in the dark”
‘According to a press release, the signs are meant to remind both residents and visitors of the importance of keeping our beaches and green spaces clean and beautiful for all to enjoy..’
Could the Beautifiction Task Force or Government remind us where are these beaches, and green spaces.
At the luxury residences and condos
Sign of the times, one might say.
Take a drive up by Morgan’s Harbor and see what they think of the signs up there.
Bare riff raff.
This may seem harsh, but I fully believe that anyone caught fly tipping, who isn’t Caymanian, should have their right to be here revoked. It’s a disgusting thing to do that effects everyone who lives here. If you’re Caymanian, you should actually have a large fine, and or some time in prison, even if it’s just a week or two. Absolutely idle behavior.
As for the vandals, same as above.
I meant, ‘affects’.
What if I’m a minister and I run over one of the signs after leaving the bar? Will I still face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law?
Anyone else surprised to learn there is a Beautification Task Force? What’s their budget? Who is it? What have they done?!?
Yes! They should pay a team to clean up the island all the time!
No, they should enforce the laws and prosecute the offenders.
Why not bofe?
Chris Johnson wanted to clear up Red Spot. Each and do a beautification project which was turned down by CPA because Kenny wants the land for his new cruise ship terminal.
Where the heck is our country going.
Go look under the one by the George Town Post Office, in the heart of our “revitalized” capital and come back and let us know what you find.
The signs are an eyesore. There is too much text to read when driving past. Just provide more garbage bins and people will use them.
But they won’t. Littering and illegal dumping is a foundation of the culture.
Kenny’s illegal ,billboards deserve the same treatment.
This may have been a protest against the thousands of billboards littering our roads, led by KB’s “personal billboards”.
We don’t need banal reminders. Remove KB’s illegal billboards, they are littering!!
Riff raff behavior
Lowest of the low.
Sad times
And it’s growing worse by the day
