Tide gauge vandalised and solar kit stolen
(CNS): The tide gauge at the Panama Canal in the Creek, Cayman Brac, was vandalised last week and the suspects also made off with the device’s antenna and solar panel, plus two marine batteries. The gauge went offline sometime last Thursday afternoon and when staff went to investigate, they found the lock on the device had been broken and the wires cut.
The matter is under investigation by Cayman Brac police. Anyone with any information is asked to call Cayman Brac Police Station at 948-0331. The public is also asked to be on the lookout for any of the items which were stolen. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website. That is not vandalism, that is theft. Vandalism would be smashing it or throwing it down after ripping parts free. When someone takes a solar panel, the charging equipment and the batteries that’s theft as if they had stolen a (small) generator from someone. Or broke into a store and stolen a solar generator kit.
So you are concerned to debate the definition of Vandalism vs Theft????? How about being concerned of the fact that Cayman is endemic with criminal activity; with no good prospects in sight due to the lack of professionalism in the Ministers, the Cabinet, the civil service, the appointed flunkies, and the basic society of this ill managed rock in the sea. I’m sorry to tell you, the only bright spots are the ‘islands’ within the island that rich expats have established to keep the ‘nasties’ out (and I am not one of them before you attack me.). Truth sucks…
Just check whose electric bill goes down and that’s your culprit. That’s if the person didn’t take it to Grand Cayman already.
Silly comment. That wee bit of solar panel won’t make a difference to anyone or their bill.
