MacDonald’s in George Town

(CNS): MacDonald’s restaurant on Shedden Road in George Town was robbed on Monday evening at around 8pm by a man wearing black clothing and a hoodie, with his face covered. The suspect entered the premises and brandished what appeared to be a handgun. After approaching the cashiers, he demanded money before fleeing the scene on a bicycle. According to social media posts, witnesses said the robber dropped a quantity of the cash as he rode away.

When police arrived at the location and searched the surrounding area, they were unable to find the robber but the RCIPS confirmed that officers did recover some of the cash dropped by the robber as he made his getaway.

No shots were fired during the incident and no injuries were reported, the RCIPS said. Anyone with information is asked to call George Town Police Station at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website.

Looks like businesses will have to install metal detectors at entryways into and out of their businesses and of course not allow anyone to enter who bares total face/head coverings. Retains security on the premises as long as there is a presence within the establishment (not only if it is open but once there is someone still working within the business). Especially if the business has previously been robbed. Security companies need to ensure that their officers are insured and baring equipment which could help disarm and disable potential robbers. This is what it may come down to unfortunately as there is no deterrent for these people who obviously believe they are entitled to other people’s hard-earned proceeds. The more this shows up in the news the more tourism could be affected along with our residents (who will not want to visit establishments after certain hours for fear of potentially running into these types of situations😔.) This is not our Cayman way although progress and development means there will be negativity coming along. Does not mean businesses cannot protect themselves. Hon Kenneth Bryan perhaps a meet with businesses in Central George Town to discuss. Two in a week?😔. Almost monthly😔?

Maybe he got enough to buy a Honda Fit. It’s hard work doing armed robberies with just a bicycle for escape.

It behooves me to say that this Robinhood environmentalist riding off on his le bycycle should have reconsidered having a MacDonald’s chicken burger to go before hitting the road as they are quite delicious! Maybe this Captain Planet will ride off on a Segway in the next heist.
