Vickie Frederick

(CNS): The education ministry and other relevant parties are “engaged in active discussions” over the future of the principal of Red Bay Primary School, the ministry has said. Officials confirmed that the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub had completed its investigation into allegations that Vickie Frederick acted inappropriately with students when she allegedly performed some form of exorcism at the school in May 2021.

But no one has commented on reports that Frederick returned to the school last week. Responding to questions about this and the findings of the investigation, ministry officials offered a short response to CNS, in line with the ministry’s reluctance so far to reveal anything about the enquiry.

“Further to the completion of the MASH Unit’s investigation, the Ministry of Education and other relevant parties are still engaged in active discussion on the matter. As such, we are unable to comment at this time,” officials stated but gave no indication about the findings of the investigation.

According to Cayman Marl Road and other social media posts, Frederick, who was reportedly serving elsewhere within the education department and away from students following the complaints against her more than 18 months ago, was seen at the school on Friday of last week. She was said to have told a number of people that she was expecting to soon return to her job as principal, a position she held for some 15 years before her partial suspension on full pay.

Although no details have ever been confirmed by officials about the accusations against Frederick, parents had claimed that a number of children were pulled out of class and asked questions about their understanding of their sexuality. They were then subjected to some sort of religious ceremony that was deemed to have been an exorcism. This had frightened the young students, who were told they were possessed by demons and must repent.

As a Christian I do not support this woman being back in the school room. No one should be treated the way it was reported that she treated children who were entrusted to her care. One’s religious beliefs should not be forced on anyone. The Christian Bible says to “Let every man be fully persuaded by his own mind.” Romans 14:5. Jesus did not force himself on anyone. Over time, and based on my own experiences, my faith has grown deeply. I know that Jesus Christ is no fairy tale or myth, as some have said here, but it is not for me to judge or try to force my beliefs on anyone. When appropriate I share my faith, yes, but I do not attack others for their beliefs either. I am mindful that my Christian Bible also says, “Judge not that you be not judged.” Matthew 7:1. I believe in leading by example and not by force. I believe in being kind and forgiving (although I often struggle with the latter.) Ultimately, I believe in treating others the way I would like to be treated. Perhaps I will be considered a heathen, or a lukewarm Christian, by some, and I am quite ok with that, but some of what is going on nowadays under the guise of Christianity is far from the teachings of Jesus Christ. When we look at who He chose as his disciples we can learn a lot about Him. In relation to the issue being addressed here, I believe it is appropriate to now be reminded of Jesus’ own words in this scripture, “On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers'” (Matthew 7:21-23).”

Our children deserve better. Fire this lady and allow her to carry on her tragic religious zealot habits elsewhere. She is obviously not suited to educating our children to be well rounded adults who can make up their own minds. CIG needs to deal with this now and fast.

sigh* i’m a believer but forcing it unto people is why many people look at christians the way they do and i honestly can’t blame them since many come with this blunt approach and for those actions toward the students is clearly not acceptable. I’m sorry they had to experience that. Their are there to learn, nothing is wrong with alittle prayer but if it is a place or education, worry heavy on the kids who struggle to read or learn or have short attention span like come on now!

Please use the correct terminology. The word I believe you were looking for is Religion.

As for religion, it is still tied to much of the world’s past, present and future. Some religions may die out, while others evolve and new ones created. It is a significant part of he human experience.

School is in the business of teaching… reading, writing, arithmetic, physical education, sex education, history, music, art, trades, literature, language, and YES religion.

Certain religions / groups may choose to perform exorcisms, but a school is NOT the place. On children, without parental consent? NO! Without medical and or psychological consultations? NO. How dare she?!

That principal should not be allowed to interact with children in a school again or a place of worship. She should be FIRED from that post. End of conversation.

  4. Anonymous says:

She should have been FIRED IMMEDIATELY and her teacher qualifications should be revoked to avoid a private school hiring her later.

If you are a Christian then why do you assume she’s crazy? The Bible is the basis for Christian belief and it includes unambiguous claims that demons are real and homosexuality is a crime worthy of execution. (If you deny this it means you are one of the many Christians who never bothered to read your own book)

You are trying to have it both ways, live in the real world and the fantasy zone of religion at the same time.

She’s no more crazy than the book that defines your religion. Give it some thought.

The Old Testament is not Christianity. It’s books are vengeful Abrahamic fire and brimstone myth. Jesus shows up in the New Testament, right at the end. He delivers a new set of Golden Rules which doesn’t exist in the Old Testament. We need to stop pretending that Ring Wing Abrahamic Zealot crazies are the same as Christians. They reside on the furthest ring wing of the continuum where Jesus doesn’t exist yet.

If you take a look, you will find plenty of demons, magic, miracles, and other nonsense in the New Testament. There’s also the troublesome fact that Jesus is quoted in the New Testament as saying he did not come to change any of the old laws, but to uphold them.

You’re right. Who in their right mind would send their child to that school? If it was my child no one would have to worry about this principal returning to school. these horror stories about government school teachers are endless. no wonder there are so many issues with the kids.

imagine…. “mom/dad.. the principal pulled me out of class and asked about my sexuality and then told me to repent for my sins etc”. RED!

Parents start talking to your children. Let them know what is or isn’t appropriate.

Firstly I will say that everyone should get their day in court and there is always a chance that some kids cooked this up and if that’s the case it needs to be known.

Bottom line is the truth needs to come out first.

Then…if there is a single shred of truth to the accusations she needs to be locked up. If this is true, her boss needs to be fired as well as the manager of that person. The minister should resign.

If this is true and has been allowed to happen within our education system it is a scathing indictment of the entire system and anyone who even remotely contributes to its failures. We have kids graduating at an alarming rate whom cannot read. They cannot do math. They cannot carry a conversation and have no basis for further education or entrance into the workforce. Stories like this lady (if true) are an indicator of why the system is failing so poorly. She is a principal for God’s sake! If a principal can be this far gone can you imagine the rest of the system.

Time to tear it allllll down and start from scratch with REAL leaders and experts at the top to make it work.

Teachers can’t lay their hands on any child, let alone a Principal. Period. It’s terminal cause. She also grabbed little kids as young as 9 and made them drink something while kooking-out on them over their sexuality. That part should be an RCIPS issue. This Principal and the Minister of Education should be relieved of those duties immediately and RCIPS should be involved. The parents should also file a police report if they didn’t do so.

Even if we leave out the exorcism (which wasn’t administered with sarcasm), she man-handled kids as young as 9 and forced them to drink some mysterious liquid to purify them….over their sexuality! This was the school principal violating human and civil rights. FIRE HER ASS. MoE shouldn’t need to even to convene on the seriousness of this. The parents should file an action against the school, the Ministry of Education, and the Minister herself (she should step down to, or be forced out because of her inability to decide this no brainer case). Outrageous that this is still undecided.

I hope the ministry does the right thing and put the protection and rights of the STUDENTS FIRST. Some one needs to FACT-CHECK the laws that protect children. Not only from their own parents but OVERALL. No religion should be shoved down our children’s throats. Nor FEAR or TRAUMA instilled in them, in a place where they got to LEARN, and where is secondary to the sanctity of HOME. I have heard some details of this story but who needs to really?! Just knowing that someone, a school leader, decides to insert their personal religious beliefs and practices, is enough to cause any parent to swoon. If this were any where else, there would be a class action suit by parents. Craziness if you ask me. Sheer, utter craziness. Thankfully not my children nor nieces or nephews. Our children have rights. PEOTECTED AND PROTECTION RIGHTS. ANYWHERE THEY ARE. THIS IS ILLEGALLY TRAUMATIZING STUDENTS/CHILDREN.
