Breakdowns and crashes delay Brac garbage collection

Accident on Aston Rutty Drive, Cayman Brac, involving a garbage truck

(CNS): The Department of Environmental Health is apologising to Cayman Brac residents over delays to garbage collection services due to a series of mechanical truck failures and a collision involving a loaded garbage truck earlier this month. The Department of Public Works (DPW) is making the necessary repairs, but the vehicle downtime resulted in a slight delay in collections, the DEH said. Meanwhile, the DEH team on the Brac is working hard to resume normal service.

How do you get into a collision on the Brac??

    • Anonymous says:

A: The art of demolition. On the Brac, it’s also possible to totally crash a quarter million dollar Oshkosh fire truck on a completely clear and flat open runway.

Ever driven here? We have just as many fools who think they have skills as you do in Grand Cayman.

I have no idea or itel as to how the garbage truck crashed. Could have been mechanical error. Doubtful, since that looks like a new truck. We will likely never find out the truth, just like everything else around here.

    Likely just a communication breakdown

I’m sure there was a corroded bolt somewhere on that crashed garbage truck.

All of the drivers of garbage trucks on the Brac speed and drive carelessly, very carelessly especially early mornings when it’s still dark

regulations prohibit trash collection before 6am, isn’t it? Or Cayman doesn’t have such regulations?

No. My collection comes 4 am. They so damn noisy they wake me up and keep me up for an hour as they go round the block. Then there’s also the commercial collection they do down the road every week about 3 am. Drives like a madman, speed bumps and all.

The long-awaited delivery of new garbage trucks has been received by the Department of Environmental Health, and according to DEH Director Richard Simms, all of them were expected to be on the road this week with five new drivers starting work. Simms said that the department was well, if not fully, equipped and was catching up with garbage collection.

    It didn’t take long…🤦‍♀️🙈🙉🚌🤦‍♀️🙉🙈🚌
