Public Health reports two COVID-related deaths

(CNS): The Public Health Department has confirmed two more “COVID-related deaths”. Health officials said that both individuals had several comorbidities. One had received two doses of the vaccination, though it was not stated when they had their last shot, while the other was unvaccinated. Since the first case of the virus in March 2020, there have been 31 deaths attributed to the coronavirus in the Cayman Islands. Officials no longer report the details of the pandemic due to the significant reduction in the number of people seeking official PCR tests.

Public reporting is now limited to the number of people in hospital who are positive for COVID-19 and any deaths. “Any notable increases in hospitalisations, as well as any new deaths, will be announced to the public immediately,” officials added.

According to the last official numbers, despite a surge of infections on Cayman Brac last week as kids returned to school, the number of new COVID-19 hospital admissions in the last week of August was just four, down from seven the week before. Public Health said that all the new admission were due to COVID-19 morbidity.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness extended condolences to both families of the latest victims of this virus.

None of us want to run a fever/cough for a week or more, missing school/work/special appointments/milestone events/deadlines. Part of returning to pre-COVID norms recalls that anyone who might be sick with one or more of these sort of symptoms, to kindly stay at home in their pyjamas, using the sick days conferred via the Labour Law. Doesn’t matter if the COVID-19 LFT is negative, someone with those symptoms is clearly not well and needs to rest at home, drink fluids, and take care of themselves. Let’s normalize considering the (non-commercial) needs of others again please.

Deaths among the unvaccinated are not a relevant metric for public policy, particularly if someone is in a high risk group and decide not to do the one thing most likely to protect their life.

Born Caymanian here. Still not vaccinated. Caught Covid twice. Didn’t budge to the fears and threats of losing my job. Didn’t break down the hospital for oxygen. Just local herbs, ivermectin (the drug you guys say is just for horses), and the wisdom God has given me. 🙂 Yep .. my faith is always in God’s providence and respecting the sacred body I am entrusted with! And I am proud to say by ignoring the Panton alarmist PACT government… lol.. I am doing just fine. 👍🏽 BIG UP TO THOSE WHO DID THE SAME.

Born English here. Got double vaccinated and boosted to help reduce the risk of spread and death in the Cayman community. Haven’t caught Covid once. Just vitamins, nutrients, no horse drugs and the wisdom Science has give me. Yep my faith is always in science. And I’m proud to say by NOT ignoring logical, sound advice… lol. I am doing just fine, and feel confident that I’ve done my part to reduce the spread. BIG UP TO THOSE WHO DID THE SAME

I think the fact that he caught it twice and running laps, is impressive. He took no jab. Maybe you could learn something about natural antibodies, don’t you think?

That would be a swell argument IF Covid conferred immunity to those who recovered, as with conventional influenza. However, as you can easily discover with a short bit of research, immunity is NOT conferred to those who recover, and in fact, some suffer effects for months and even years.

Sorry do you mean contracting it from being vaxxed or unvaxxed because you get it either way. In fact I know people fully vaxxed and boostered who’ve gotten Covid 3 or 4 times now compared to unvaxxed who’ve still not gotten it or gotten once and been just fine. Point being, it doesn’t seem to be giving any immunity neither is it reducing symptoms as I’m hearing vaxxed people complain they feel WORSE each time they catch it.

These things don’t go together – you took ivermectin and have the wisdom God gave you. Although now I think about it, seeing there is no God, and yet you think there is, it says everything we need to know about your wisdom even before you said you took horse medicine.

Ah, still going on with the ‘horse medicine’ disinformation but I bet never ready up on it. And I bet you’re calling other people who can read (past headlines and public service announcements), uneducated.

    We now have 3 deaths.

Please keep in mind in the next few months many of us will be TECHNICALLY unvaccinated as our immunity will run out.

You are totally correct. However, at this point, the ‘stupid’ will choose ‘stupid choices.’ And I am at peace with that – Darwin Awards are funny, but also a reality. Don’t want to get vaccinated, fine… Let’s see how that works for you.

It will work fine considering that covid had mutated to the point where it doesn’t make a difference whether you’re vaccinated or not.

Unless you aren’t following the science you need 6 boosters per year. Many of us are already feeling the results of this and it never turns out that new drugs go sideways. Even those that have been tested for many years before deployment.

        Good luck with that.

Cayman has 31 attributed deaths from various strains. Vaccines do not confer invincibility, that’s not how they work. Ideally, they give the host’s immune system a leg-up advantage if they are healthy. It’s true that the head start against late-2019 “Wuhan” variant is of limited benefit against a much more evolved virus. Let’s hope the Omicron vaccine can reduce transmissions to the point of snuffing this before next mutations. BA.4.6 has been building illness share from BA.5 since mandates were lifted, particularly in mid-west red states of USA.

“Health officials said that both individuals had several comorbidities.” While sad, people have been dying in hospitals after contracting the flu for hundreds of years – this isn’t news.

Here’s another way of looking at it. Both people had been ill for some time, but wouldn’t have died on that day if their ongoing condition hadn’t been worsened by covid, which brought forward their deaths and took them from their family and loved ones too early.

Sadly, your thumbs down reflect the intense uneducated readership on CNS (possibly only 3 repeat posters???). This is not hard stuff. But apparently facts and logic eludes so too many. No wonder Cayman is in such a mess as to preserving it’s heritage, it’s environment, it’s ability to elect ethical ministers, it’s ability to educate children, it’s ability to enforce laws, it’s ability to realize that a candidate that BEATS a woman in a fit of drunken rage is not who you want to sit in a minister’s seat… And most sadly, the party in power brokered a deal to elevate a woman beater to the most high seat. Cayman, I cry for your heritage, as this all is being recorded for posterity – it will not escape history. Cayman is a young territory, but the past 40 years are not to be proud of.

So much disinformation on the status of Covid 19 now , I still saw today a man driving his own car, by himself , it’s windows raised and wearing a mask . But I understand that it is now about choices .

A man walks into a local hardware store wearing his mask,( this week), as it is his choice to do so. The security guard stops him and instructs him to remove his mask . When questioned why, the security guard says so the CCTV cameras can identify him. But the patron refuses and launched into a tirade. He says he has been forced to wear a mask, against his Choice for more than 2-1/2 years to enter [the] store and now the rule has dropped on masks, he chooses to wear a mask as a choice, he is not removing it at the whim of both the stores arbitrary rule and the security guards instruction.

It sums up perfectly many of the totally useless & arbitrary rules , measures and mandates that have been shoved down peoples throats since March 2020. To a larger degree now understood , none of which did a damn thing to prevent infection spread and fatalities due to the virus.

You do realize that as per Public Health England standards, ‘covid related’ can simply mean they tested positive for covid within the past 60 days. For almost 2 years now it is the term used when someone DOESNT die ‘with’ or ‘from’ covid. The clarification is right there on the PHE website.
