As a tourist who drives the speed limit in GC ( as I am cautiously driving on the opposite side of the road then I am accustomed too), I find right before the round-abouts especially slippery sometimes even when it hasn’t rained. Not sure if the rental car tires are just not in great shape or what, but a few times, I have really been worried that I am sliding off the road.

Also, since the pandemic, I have noticed the driving in GC to be especially fast and reckless with people weaving in and out of lanes, over-taking, and this is day and night.

20 @ 2:44pm – Anonymous tourist, you’re correct about many roundabouts here. Some are “reverse-cambered” for some unknown reason. Improper design because of engineer error perhaps? I recall a roadworks supervisor telling me some years ago when I questioned that anomaly, that the roadcrews called this to the engineers’ attention and they were told to “just build it and leave the thinking to us”.

      Typical.

It saves the cost of having to build storm drains around the center of the roundabout. The slope to the outside sends the water to the roadside where it goes somewhere until it sinks in or evaporates. It would be better if every roundabout had a pond in the middle for drainage.

This is a tragic event, but what steps are taken here to ensure 84 year old’s are fit to drive?. My insurance company requires over70’s to have their doctor complete an annual medical check and to certify they are fit to drive.

So you think more people on the road will make it more safe. You are beginning to repeat yourself.

Covid deaths down but road deaths up. No police ever but covid restrictions and stupid travel time still in place. What the actual F is wrong with this place?

RIP. Maybe, just maybe something can be done in regards to police presence, speed cameras, serious penalties…Maybe just Maybe will government spend funds more wisely than the continued waste of covid related expenses.

I know it probably had nothing to do with this accident but something needs to be done about the lane dividing stripes on our roads. Most of the lines are narrow, faded non reflective and nearly impossible to see at night. Not to mention when it is raining. It makes it very hard to stay in the correct lane. I feel sorry for the poor tourists

It’s also poor driving and laziness. Even a bright sunny day you will find people hugging the lane or veering into the other lane, it’s truly mind boggling.

Don’t you know these reckless drivers including taxi and bus drivers are important people and their texts are more important than other’s lives?
