COVID-19 travel regulations to run another month

| 27/05/2022 | 123 Comments

(CNS): Cabinet has now extended the Control of Covid-19 (Travel) (No. 2) Regulations until the end of June, officials said Thursday evening. This brings them into line with the management regulations, which were also extended until the end of June last month. The extension of the rules surrounding travel means that unvaccinated adult tourists with no connections to the island are still prohibited and all travellers will still need a negative COVID-19 test taken 24 hours before arrival.

See the government notice here.

Complacency is the opposite of vigilance. While many of us disagree with the over the top approach and very selective application of domestic public health policy, Covid is not over, and we each will need to apply best logic and decisions. Hopefully reasonable citizens will factor the growing statistics that 20% experience lingering or lasting complaints, with material healthcare costs and capacity strain that shouldn’t be dismissed. Being mindful of the needs of others is becoming a forgotten character trait. It is possible to live normally while being mindful.

      @8:01:
Shhhh! You must not mention the statistical certainty that Long Covid exists in the Cayman Islands! Nor should you express that Covid can cause symptoms that last or recur long after the acute phase of the infection has passed. You should never mention that Long Covid can affect one or more of just about every organ system in the body. You must not say that Long Covid may cause permanent damage, and can be more severe than the original infection. You should avoid expressing the fact that responsible countries like the USA and UK have recognised the existence of Long Covid. Try not to tell people that the UK has allocated million$ to address post-Covid sequelae. You must avoid saying any of these things…UNLESS you want to wake people out of their complacent slumber and make our government face the issue of Long Covid. God forbid that you should wake people out of their comas! God forbid that you should want our Government to take responsible action!
If you want to gain first-hand experience regarding what our government thinks about the issue of Long Covid, I offer…
The Long Covid Challenge: Next time you speak with any PACT member or health official ask them what they are doing to address the issue of Long Covid in the Cayman Islands. Better yet, also bring it up at the next public PACT-sponsored meeting. You might want to ask them: a) if they are aware of how many cases of suspected Long Covid we have had in the Cayman Islands; b) if they have any idea of what percentage of Covid cases result in the patient having continued symptoms, or developing newly occurring symptoms after recovery; c) if they have any idea of what future case projections are for Long Covid; d) if they have any figures relating to the economic impacts of Long Covid in the Cayman Islands.
Then come back to CNS and in the comment section on a Covid-related article here, let us know the responses they give. You see, our Government has, what is thus far a very effective and ingenious Long Covid policy. Its effectiveness is evidenced by the fact that there are currently no official reports of any cases of Long Covid in these Islands. Their policy is that Long Covid cannot exist if you simply refuse to admit it exists. The brilliant Panton-PACTless coven and their minions have it all figured out! How amazing!

The required negative Covid test for those fully vaxed 24 hours prior to arrival in Cayman is now simply stupid and a huge deterrent for anyone wanting to be a stay over vacationer there. This is especially mind boggling and insulting when cruisers who have likely been more exposed to more people and other destinations prior to arrival on GC can enter without that mandate. Cayman rules for admission simply no longer make any sense and are huge disincentives for those who are otherwise willing to spend significant amounts there on a stay over vacation this summer.

For those of you who wants to travel to the US, the vaxx certificate and test is only for the Cayman Islands. Here in the US they don’t ask you for it because it’s illegal to ask any persons for proof. The cayman government is a joke.

With omicron so infectious, (so that zero covid is unachievable), and so much less dangerous than the 2020/2021 variants, especially taking vaccines into account, (so that the policy reasons to restrict travel are lessened, since health care will not be overwhelmed) and with covid endemic and prevalent in high numbers in Cayman (so it is a case of when you will get it not if you will get it), exactly what do travel restrictions achieve, especially when people are travelling from countries with equivalent or lower infection rates?

Seriously, CIG/CMO what is the reason for this extension?

Whilst I think we are long past restrictions, your suggestion thatt they should be continued to be employed but only against the unvaccinated has no logic to it. The disease is capable of being spread by the vaccinated. The consequences for the vaccinated are less, sure, as are the demands on the public health system, but the simple reality is that vaccinated or not you can catch it and you can spread it. Get rid of the restrictions because they are not going to do anything to reduce the spread unless they move back to forcing everyone to isolate except for limited excursions to the shops. But to lock down the unvaccinated will achieve nothing other than a petty feeling of revenge for the time when the vaccinated were subject to more serious restrictions because some people weren’t vaccinated – back before Omnicron when the vaccinated were highly unlikely to catch the disease. And the consequences were far more severe. Now – as the CMO herself pointed out – the economic, social and mental health challenges of continuing restrictions are more significant than the public health consequences.

Continued testing? They are trying to protect idiots. You want to stop this nonsense, elect Ministers that are more ethical for the majority vs the ‘paid off’ electors. Cayman can do better.

Why would the government change it ? The CIG just announced raking in the largest ever amount of cash in the first quarter of the year, without substantial stay over tourism. Cruise tourism is only back to assist a special interest group in topping up their already substantial income. CIG vanity projects and wastage can go on unchecked, whilst those who live here will have to abide by Covid restrictions for the foreseeable future. The Pact clown car can wheel out the well worn adage of “protecting the population” (which is frankly utter bs, given the cruise tourism situation), at the same time as frittering away the huge financial resources generated by the financial sector.

While we are posting links to UK government Covid policy, should you not have also been thorough and presented the rest of the story?

In the page referred to by your second link, under the “NHS” heading you will find this:
“In the next phase of managing COVID-19, the NHS will continue to:
        b. Support patients with Long COVID, where the UK is leading the way in research, treatment and care. Specialist services have been established throughout England for adults, children and young people experiencing long-term effects of COVID-19 infection, underpinned by a £100 million plan for 2021-22, and further investment for 2022-23.”

Here…allow me to expand on this:
        https://www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/post-covid-syndrome-long-covid/
The Cayman Islands Panton government has an even more ingenious Long Covid policy:
If you do not officially admit Long Covid exists, it does not officially exist. Shazaaamm! No need to make the public aware of the issue. No need for specialised patient care. No need to track cases. No need for specialised services and clinics. No need to allocate funds to it. How brilliant, Wayne! Why didn’t the UK think of this?
@10:59, you need not wonder where the Cayman Islands are in regard to these ideals relative to Long Covid, there have their brilliant policy to combat Long Covid firmly in place:
“Nos de hoc non cogitamus, ergo non est!”
(My Latin may be a bit rusty but you should get the idea.)

    • Anonymous says:

If we are to take the UK policy as good guidance for the Cayman Islands in regard to Covid 19, then we must insist that the Cayman Islands government acknowledge the existence of Long Covid and fund programmes to address the issue. The UK leaders know that relaxing Covid precautions will result in an increase in cases of Long Covid and will for the long haul. Being responsible, they have long since put big funding and meaningful systems in place to address Long Covid. And from our devil-may-care Government? Crickets.
