(CNS): Public Health officials have revealed that another unvaccinated elderly patient has died from COVID-19 related causes, bringing the death toll of infected people in the Cayman Islands since the pandemic reached here to 24. Another two infected patients remain in hospital, both of whom are unvaccinated.

Although community transmission of the virus has decreased significantly, people continue to be infected.

    Q. With 100% of volunteered positive cases being confirmed and exiting quarantine via PCR testing, for the express purpose of collecting material for secondary genomic testing, can the HSA please confirm what the dominant strain/s is/are right now? Do we still have all three spreading in pockets, or are we only dealing with one now?

Personal responsibility. We all have the choice to get vaccinated or not. It should remain a choice. Everyone knows the risks of dying from Covid are WAYYYYYYYY higher if unvaccinated.

Let us all make our own choices based on our situation. We aren’t responsible for protecting those that choose to not protect themselves.

It’s sad when someone vulnerable, perhaps fed bad info, gets dramatically sicker, suffers and perishes simply because their direct contacts didn’t believe in masking, LFTing, or staying home in respectful quarantine. Like it or not, the actions/inactions of others are why we are still dealing with this in a third season.

Hopefully the Minister will release the second booster so that we can prevent more hospitalizations.

Very sad news. With the new BA2 Covid strain spreading rapidly in Europe and with places like Scotland now having their highest Covid hospitalizations ever I hope that government is going to authorize a second booster soon!

    • Anonymous says:

      Not the BS2 Covid strain?
Right. I won’t be leaving the house for a while. Thanks for the heads up.

      • Bobo Fett says:

CDC estimates that BA.2 accounts for 35% of daily coronavirus cases in the U.S., up from 23% last week.

This, as thousands of Americans arrive on our shores and the hordes have been seen unmasked and not distancing so far.

        • Caymanian says:

Yup. Here we go and instead of PROMOTING MASK we are hinting at taking them off just as we expose ourselves even more. Now doesn’t that sound ultrawise.

Any news on the super-spreader event at the Ritz on Friday night?

    • Poppy says:

Yes, it was super. Get on with life.

      • Caymanian says:

You mean death right? Get in with death.

I am curious. When did our government lose its sense of consence? People dropping like flies and no concern being voiced by CIG. Its like ho hum just another Caymanian dead. Thank God it was not an American or English because then it might be important or LORD forbid a tourist.

How inexpensive has the Caymanian life become that people are dying and fellow Caymanians are like “we need get on with life”.

  6. Guido Marsupio says:

Truly sad that there are still unvaccinated elderly here. CIG has done all it can, now it’s up to the families to choose medical science or some other source of advice (Dr. FaceBook FOX perhaps?) for the safety of their loved ones. Condolences to the family.

    • Anonymous says:

Except the ‘medical science’ is conflicted. Just review what was being said about vaccines, masks, vaccine passports, lockdowns etc in the last twelve months. Furthermore this government has made choices that do not agree with medical science. We have a situation where kids which have been the least affected having to wear masks in school, but tourists off cruise ships do not have to in stores or buses. The ‘medical science’ doesn’t fully support vaccination of healthy 2-11 year olds, but our government is encouraging it without providing any convincing evidence to support it. So in the end it comes down to personal choices which should be respected if you decide to vaccinate or not.

      • Guido Marsupio says:

Elderly? Did I hear you say elderly?

        • Anonymous says:

why not mention the real age of this ‘elderly’. Is it to mask that only the old and vulnerable are at risk?

      • Poppy says:

The science on the effect of vaccines on the elderly is patently clear. Over 65s are 20 times less likely to need hospitalisation if vaccinated. The benefits for 2-11 year olds are borderline if there are any, but that is not a reason to spew posts like yours to justify a decision of a senior not to get the jab.

      • Caymanian says:

Where do I start with your verbal diarhea.

        – kids 2-11 is FULLY supported for newer variants as opposed to Covid Alpha as initial virus did not seemingly attack youth as much. Newer strains like Delta and Omicron attacked younger adults and children more so that is GARBAGE.

No. Vaccination is a matter of choice if you are willing to deal with the ramifications. You don’t just get the option to infect people willy nilly.

My FIL is over 80 but before Covid was still independent and would be able to travel independently to visit friends/family and small errands. However as with most people his age had health issues. His doctor did not recommend the vaccine for him as what may be a small side effect for you may be deadly for him. So who do you suggest we follow? You advice or his doctor’s?

And right in Cayman we had a 3 year old with severe complications from Covid. If ARK didn’t highlight it may have proven fatal. What would you have said then?

It is shocking how callous people have become towards another person’s death due to Covid. All because their so called freedoms and rights are being trampled on. Sad sad world.

    • Anonymous says:

What’s tragic is that in a land of plenty, a primary contact of the deceased (and maybe more than one) didn’t feel they should splurge $5 to LFT before their intended contact with a vulnerable elderly person that day – vaccinated or not. We are one of the few places on Earth that actually have stacks of these diagnostic tools widely available, retail priced near shipped, distributed and shelved cost, to ensure this never happens, and yet they are sitting there on the shelves going stale. We’ve had this tool in our hand for >4 months. No cure for stupid.

  7. Chuck D says:

I stopped reading at unvaccinated. We cannot limit our freedoms to protect those who choose not to protect themselves. How many fully vaccinated deaths from covid have there been in 2022? 1? 2?

    • Anonymous says:

What you need to Check is how many vaccinated persons ( who was considered Healthy prior to the vaccines) has be treated at HSA and Health City with heart failure, blood clots, liver and kidney damages and strokes – these facts may alarm you ….. but of course because of denial you wouldn’t associate this with the vaccine …. Don’t worry just give it a few more months cause you ain’t seen nothings yet

    • Anonymous says:

Of course you did, because you lack empathy and have fallen prey to tribalism

    • Caymanian says:

      1 or 2 is 1 or 2 too many

      • Anon says:

No it is not when the diseases is endemic and the costs of protecting 1 or 2 so far more harm to thousands more.

  8. Anonymous says:

    rip.
said it before… no-one who is relatively healthy, under 70, who is vaxxed, will die from covid.
    get vaxxed.
