(CNS): Derrin Kennedy Ebanks (32) was sentenced on Thursday to three years and eight months in jail, having been convicted this summer of several charges relating to a violent, drunken rampage against three women last September. Ebanks had been bailed following his conviction by a jury in August and therefore began serving his prison term immediately after sentencing.

The one-time local soccer star, who played for Cayman in the World Cup qualifiers in 2011, had denied all of the allegations and accused the women of provoking him and starting the fights. According to the social workers’ reports read to the court, Ebanks was still showing no remorse about his crimes.

Ebanks had beaten the three women, two of whom were former girlfriends, at two different homes in West Bay. He had first turned up drunk and angry at the home of his child’s mother, where he had beaten up both her and a friend who was staying with her, fracturing the nose of one of them and knocking the other through a glass coffee table.

He then moved on to the house of another former girlfriend, whom he terrorized and assaulted. He remained there for the whole night.

As she handed down the prison time for Ebanks, Justice Cheryll Richards outlined a number of aggravating factors during the ordeal suffered by the women, including the abuse of the position of trust he had as the father of the child of one of his victims, and the violence that had taken place in front of that child.

He accused the women of provoking him and starting the fights. So, perhaps the judge sent him to jail for his own good. You know…to protect him from these horrible aggressive women who caused him so much distress that he snapped. That’s ok BooBoo, you will be safe from them for almost four years. You should thank the judge for caring enough to put you in such a safe place and out of harm’s way.

Ha, what a f&^% Y&%! To the people of Cayman.

McKeeva gets off and this guys gets a small time in jail.

What a joke this place is and its obvious it will never change

  4. Two Cents says:

    Disgusting sentence.

This is sad indeed. Where did he go wrong. This must be hard on the family. I hope he takes the time to reflect back on his past and make a sincere effort to be a better person.
Sometimes our children make us proud and sometimes they let us down despite all the effort we make to guide them right.

There was clearly no guidance here. His family is why he is the why he is. Continue to enable unacceptable behaviour and it will continue to happen. A grown man being babied his mommy is the reason so man of these men like this.

Sorry, as an adult we all have choices to make. He chose poorly.

      • Anonymous says:

BS! Every person need to take responsibility for how they want to conduct themselves. Blaming the parents is simply a poor excuse for his actions.

      • Anonymous says:

He did his actions and you want to blame ‘his mommy’!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How incredibly naive and stupid. So you want him to go free and put his mother in jail? You want to excuse his actions as an adult because of his upbringing? I know too many friends that made themselves honorable, successful and ethical in spite of their family guidance. STOP making excuses for those that have little respect for others. YOU are part of the problem! Every one of use has choices to be moral or immoral.

Cayman justic are too easy on crime, thats one of the reasons it’s too many crimes/criminals here in our little island.

Out in 22 months to beat up more girls. What do you expect from a country where an MLA gets grounded by the courts for beating up a young woman in a public bar?

  8. George Ebanks says:

It seems like a suspended sentence with a probation order would have been much more appropriate in this case. How do we expect to rehab people without rehab opportunities??

    • Anonymous says:

Are you even serious? A probation order? Hell no! Should have given him 44 YEARS!

    • Anonymous says:

@1:32 suspended sentence? Are you serious? I assume you’re family, else get help. He can think about what he did while in Northward, that’s his rehab!

    • Anonymous says:

      George Ebanks your an idiot!

This guy will never rehab until he is forced by hand too.

    • Anonymous says:

No one is expecting him to rehab, just the opposite. Meanwhile the girls will be safe from him. A probation doesn’t do anything as we know from sad experience. Criminals do not obey orders. That’s the main reason they are criminals.

One victim left the island already out of fear. When he’s out, let’s pray the other victims remain safe, and he stays far away from his children. His immediate family supports him and tells the island/their church he did not do it…there is a lot of generational trauma in his family. They created this monster. He has never taken accountability, and he never will. Not to mention multiple women (expats) who were supporting him after they heard what happened … He will continue to deceive people for the rest of his life. The man is demonic.

This man is a repeat offender with a history of beating women up. It just went under the radar before.

  9. Elvis says:

    Star?…… lol

  10. Anonymous says:

This man is beyond redemption. He will get out and do the same thing he did to those expats. He will wait for a new batch of expat ladies to enter the island with no knowledge of him…This time he will be “smarter” and only assault one at a time. Will keep telling them he is Caymanian they can’t do anything and if they do, he will bury them in the trenches. Mark my words.

This piece of excrement will not be “rehabilitated” in under 4 years. It should be twice as long. He defines what a ticking time bomb looks like.

  12. Anonymous says:

“The one-time local soccer star, who played for Cayman in the World Cup qualifiers in 2011” – Really? LOL. Should have been 444 months! This coward donkey will be out in 2 years terrorizing more women.

  13. Say it like it is. says:

Northward is not suitable for this type of animal, he needs a zoo.

  14. Anonymous says:

karma gonna catch up with this pos….

  15. Anonymous says:

Why is this person called a “soccer star”?

Did he have a successful career with a famous team? No?

Then, he’s just another A$$H*LE following McKeeva’s example.

Let change the title by removing “soccer star”. Everything is fine! “Ex jailed for doing what Mckeeva did”

He be running for Speaker of the House when he get out of prison…….. if he ever really goes there.

  16. Anonymous says:

Lock him up and throw away the key!

  17. Anonymous says:

Once again, an excessively lenient punishment dealt by the courts. When is Cayman going to get serious about crime fighting?

  18. Merlin says:

What a humongous waste of space he is!!

    Animal.

scum, not enough time given to him

  21. Anonymous says:

What a joke!! What kind of justice is that!?! Lock him up and throw away the key… vile human being..

  22. Anonymous says:

Derrin failed to realize he’s not a member of parliment. Only elected officials get away with drunken rampages on this island bobo.

    • Anonymous says:

He’ll be out in time to run next time and will have all the requisite credentials.

      • Anonymous says:

That’s y expats should stick to their own. Got big D messed up for a 4 year bid now player. Good luck big D loc

        • Anonymous says:

So the girls deserved it? Caymankind. Idiot.

        • Anonymous says:

LOL “Big D” can stay locked up. That’s what happens when you kick women in the face and break their noses. Not to mention beat up someone’s dog. It has nothing to do with being an expat. Let’s not victim blame.

        • Anonymous says:

Big D must be big to beat up on small little women and puppies. Only one of his fellow women beating family members or friends would say something like this. You’re just as much of a POS as he is.

        • Anonymous says:

He is the one who preys on the expacts – not the other way around. He is the one who looks for fresh meat expats who haven’t learned what he is about yet. All caymanians who know him know this is a fact.
