(CNS): The RCIPS has made an appeal for information about high-powered weapons that are being held illegally somewhere in the community. Police said that on Friday members of the public found four live rounds of ammunition in the Barkers area of West Bay that came from high powered assault weapons. The concerned citizens took the ammunition to Customs and Border Control, who then, along with the police, went to the area and conducted a search, where they found another live round and ten spent shell casings.

After examining both the live rounds and the shell casings, the police found that they came from two different calibres that are used in high powered assault weapons. The police did not specify however what type of assault firearms they were likely associated with.

Police Commissioner Derek Byrne thanked the members of the public who found the ammunition and informed CBC.

“The rounds recovered are used in extremely dangerous and high-powered rifles. I am encouraging anyone with information about these weapons to provide us with information that may assist us in recovering them and getting them safely out of our communities,” he said.

An investigation has now been launched by the police to recover these weapons and detectives are encouraging anyone with information regarding these or any other firearms to call the RCIPS.

Very worrying, this is a uk overseas territory, the policy should be to eradicate all guns. The danger otherwise is we end up like the USA with their twisted bizarre nra rules which lead to the highest deaths by guns anywhere in the world. As a european expat, the us don’t realize how much we laugh down at their gun laws. They are literally viewed as compete idiots elsewhere in the western world and laughed at, but think they are a model of the free world. The USA gun laws are an embarrassment.

It seems West Bayers are back to their old habits, dumping garbage in Barkers.

Another police request for help that lacks any useful information. What calibre? It’s only written on the bottom of each case. High calibre? That seems to mean bigger than .22, which is nearly everything. Why are we only to look for assault rifles? Are these special bullets that only fit assault rifles and not other rifles or large pistols? Could as well have just asked everyone to report every rifle they know about without even mentioning the ammo. You’d get the same response.

    • Anonymous says:

I think the request to report assault rifles is fairly obvious – you mean if you knew your neighbour had an M16 you wouldn’t report it unless the RCPS told you they were looking for 5.56 rather than 7.62?

Oh cayman how you have changed.:(

Cayman has always followed the lead of the United States, so more accurately, your statement should read, “Oh America, how you have changed.” The sad face is appropriate.

Cayman is small enough that some family member/friend/girlfriend knows who has guns in their possession. Be responsible, come forward and report ANYONE that you know that has access to firearms. We want Cayman to be safe!

I’ve got a Taurus Raging Judge Magnum 6-1/2 inch revolver. It shoots anything from a 3 inch .410 shot shell which holds 9 .30 cal pellets per shell. Also for good measure it shoots a .454 Casull round rated qt 2000 feet per second and 2000 ft lb of energy at the muzzle. Oh yea throw in a 400 grain old fashioned .45 Long Colt in there as well. So being as I can chamber 6 shells in the cylinder, the max rounds I can shoot is 51, and the best I can do is take down a Brown Bear.

Yet, some people call it an assault weapon. I call it multi purpose.

    • Anonymous says:

As far as I know brown bears don’t live anywhere close to this latitude so I’d say you and your multi purpose fire lances don’t belong here either.

    • Anonymous says:

Its a revolver for heavens sake – no one would deem that an assault weapon. Its about as much an assault weapon as a hammer. 51 rounds indeed – you must be pretty fly on emptying the cylinder and changing rounds. And my money is on a brown bear – – a black bear and something like a Ruger maybe, but that’s a pretty light frame and not that big a round for a brown. You know the name @judge@ came from personal self defence by judge in close quarter court rooms with considerably smaller defendants than bears (and the shot capacity overcoming the lack of expertise of the average judge, right?) Bottom line – if you think the size and power of your firearm is a reflection of your penis, I would get a bigger gun before boasting about it on a public forum.

If I was a west bay casino wagerer, I’d presume it exactly matches their own weapons inventory with so many bent cops still on staff. No investigations, dismissals, or arrests years since $25mln in street drugs were duffel bagged out of a “secured” evidence locker within a barbed wired police compound without any witnesses or functioning multimillion dollar CCTV surveillance. Next season on Narcos Cayman Islands, blowing half a magazine while supervising a beach landing,

So true. Just follow an FRU Officer after work and watch where they end up, mostly in the places their fellow degenerate countrymen spend their evenings. When they aren’t in the petrol stations having breakfast and doing sweet FA of course.

07 @ 8:29pm – in 2009 I turned in 3 legal firearms (one brand new in the box) which belonged to a family member who had passed away. I received a receipt from RCIPS. Sometime later I asked for proof that they had been destroyed.

A friend in the “know” has “suggested” to me that at least two of those firearms (handguns) were “redistributed”. I made an application to see them and haven’t been accommodated, nor has proof of destruction been provided – 12 years ago!!

Welcome to Jamrock. Oh how we miss the good old days.

Its rifle ammunition. Other than that you can’t really id what was shooting it.

NRA (National Rifle Association) members and supporters, please don’t bother. That’s USA, we have our own gun issues.

  13. Anonymous says:

Why wasnt it all over the news like this when the police picked up spent ak-47 bullet cases in windsor park?

    • Anonymous says:

Do you really believe the FRU officers that spend their time getting free booze in the strand are going to do that?

  14. Anonymous says:

Again a complete failure on the part of the RCIPS to provide the public with any useful information that could actually assist in their investigation. Calibre? Possible weapons, pictures, descriptions, exact location, fresh rounds? recently fired? Help me help you.

    • Anonymous says:

I’ll give you a hint. Jamrock, and imported.

    • Anonymous says:

Why would any of that help? Would you not report seeing, or hearing about, an illegal weapon because it was the ‘wrong’ calibre? Why does it matter when they were fired, or exactly where they were found? All totally irrelevant.

Weapons like this are in circulation because of the cowardice of many in the community in failing to report what they know. Help the police help you.

    • Anonymous says:

So, just to clarify, you need a detailed description of the type of ammo and whether it was freshly fired, along with what possible types of weapons could use it, in order to remember if you’ve seen illegal firearms on island?

  15. Anonymous says:

Come to the US where vehicles are used assault weapons

  16. Anonymous says:

What is an “Assault Weapon”. All guns can be used to assault someone, just as all knives can be used to assault someone. You don’t call knives found on a beach assault knives?????
